What are you talking about? With the exception of the head bob (which, granted, is not very efficient), Paula actually has very good running form. From the shoulders down she is pretty smooth and efficient.
I saw Paul McCloy curse out some spectators for making fun of him at the CIAU Championships. He won by a mile. He went to two Olympics I think.

Paul lapped me once (well, twice) in a 5000m race on an indoor track. When he went by he sounded like a steam train and took up two lanes, forced me into lane 3. Hence the nick "Two lanes McCloy". His right arm shot out straight right, head nearly rolled off the track. But he was friggin fast, 3:42 1500m best and I think 10km in 27:56, exceptional XCrunner for Canada as well. Ran 51:28 for 10miles last year as a 43 yr old. Who cares what his form looked like, he was the Man.

I do know what you mean, he was always there with the supreme kick. One can waste energy wondering what he could do if he or coach took time to work on his form...I'm no expert but I think it's the way one is put together which dictates one's running form.
Natural ability vs someone who is prepared to put in the 125% of work to get where they are?

Maybe his form changed when he started to get injuries? He had a lot of them.
Yes you see McCoys name again. He and Norm Tinkham are still around 30m 10kers at 43.

Rudy Chapa was the one with the flawless form. Salazar's form has never been ideal, although I would have to say worked nicely for him. I wouldn't show it to my high school athletes though as something to emulate.
Yes, agree, Goucher has lousy form.

ah, okay. i don't think that "stiff form" is anything bad- hell, it probably transfers energy from the arms to the legs better than a weak core that turns a lot- but i guess i see what you mean about "excessive lateral leg movement." are you referring to his knee drive inward, approaching the midline of his body, rather than straight up from the hip? i think most runners do that to some extent and, what's more, it is only really pronounced when Webb is tying up at the end of a race.
so, while i agree that he's not going to win any "smoothness" competitions anytime soon, i disagree that his form is anything but efficient.
Frank Shorter always looked like he was running very slow and with out effort.
