bear grylls is a highly trained ex soldier who served in british secret ops, maybe you missed that from a previous post, but Bear would certainly kick that other guys ass.

I have not seem anyone dressed up in a lion's costume yet.

Bear Grylls is the real deal. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about if you think that he is in anyway fake. Read his autobiography called "The Kid Who Climbed Everest." This guy is hardcore and a true survivor!

Survivorman does specific location research too. He has his own local guide that goes overeverything.

You had better believe it is researched before he goes in- he's a survival specialist, not a retard. I've seen him mention several times that it is always a good idea to learn about local terrain, animals, weather, etc before you go out and get yourself lost.

I think Bear does a lot of really stupid stuff (swimming through the ice floes in Alaska, jumping into the frozen lake in the alps, etc) that Survivorman doesn't because if anything happens to Bear, there are people there who can help him. I've always been curious about the camera crew who goes with him- they have to be pretty hearty guys to follow him around and tape everything. While I'm sure they have a lot of safter and survival gear that he doesn't, it still can't be easy.

He makes an awful lot of mistakes for a survival expert, he discards extremely useful equipment like crazy.

His Skiis on a snow covered mountain? After a very short time? Stupid. Just so he could walk in Skiiboots. Not very smart. He lets his fire go out CONSTANTLY, he makes choices to get wet, mis judges distances almost every episode. Lets go white water rafting on this makes shift raft...OOOps! You see the camera become submerged on the raft, then a wide shot of him falling of the raft, no camera there. So OBVIOUSLY certain moments have been recreated. You know the cameraman is not going down slick rock with him, so the camerman sees that Bear does not put his life in danger by getting trapped on a climb etc etc.

IRL you get into trouble because you don't knoow whats ahead. He does not have to worry about that. makes it alot easier & safer.

I don't care whether or not they help him. This is an entertaining show that I've learned a lot from. I don't think I've retained much of it, but if I ever come across elephant shit I'll know what to do.

How ridiculous. Even a highly trained horse left to pasture will revert to its untrained ways. It is assinine to believe you can control an animal with a loop of grass.

He actually did not want to be on the horses back and that is why he only made a half hearted jump and slid off.

Pure show, he was not trying to teach survival technique because trying to ride a strange horse without equipment is more life threatening than the enviroment.

Dressage riders wear helemts for a reason...

Agreed it is a very entertaining show...

However, its not the same as surivorman who if he does something wrong he could possible die.

Both show's are great and deserve to be watched.

You should read the Army's survival manual. It's about 400 to 500 pages long and he actually does most of the stuff that is in there. And when he set up that trap, he did it exactly like the manual says. It works, the birds and other small animals ARE that dumb. They will just walk right into a noose.
