NCAA Men's 1500m - Who wins?

The Stanford guys are good 1500m/mile runners, but they don't have the speed to finish strong in a championship race like NCAA's.

For the top 5 finish, I would automatically go with Manzano, Rono, Lomong, Lancashire, and Solares. Solares has run 1:47 to win his conference 800m, so that may not be at 100%. He also ran 3:40.xx a few weeks ago, so he's deffinately ready to go. Here's how I see it:

1. Manzano

2. Rono

3. Lomong

4. Lancashire

5. Solares

But in all honesty, I think that order could be totally jumbled up. Lancashire ran 1:45 last year, which is pretty damn amazing I think. He deffinately has world class speed if he can run that, but it's no good if he doesn't learn how to transfer that kind of talent to winning championship races.

Torrence, Russel Brown, Smith, Pifer, Chiulli will all be there, but I don't think any of those guys will be in contention for the win. Manzano did finish 3rd at USATF's last summer in 3:39 right behind Lagat and Jennings, so that race probably added some confidence to his racing. Rono won it last year and is looking to be in good form this year, so I wouldn't be surpised to see him up there.

Does anyone have the video of last years race...where the FSU guys got run down. I have not seen it and would like too.

I would watch out for Billy Berlin of VT. He has gone 1:49 and 3:41 already this year, so he has the speed to match anyone in D1!

the thing everyone is failing to see is that manzano is not gonna win if the race is slow, he preys on peep who go out fast and comes back on them. Look at every nationals he won, lukezic blew it open early then died and so did everyone who went with him so manzano came back on them. Also you have to take into account that lomong and lancashire have the best kicks prob from a stale pace, lomong is the strongest person in the mile field as far as distance goes and has sub 147 speed, how can you think of anyone besides these two from a slow pace? Manzano wins if pace is real fast up front, lomong could possibly run away from everyone

How does he have the speed to match anyone in D1 when we are talking about guys who run 1:45/46 that are entered in the 1500? you make no sense

If he couldn't win Pac-10's (wasn't even top 3), what makes you think he can beat the best in the nation? He is good, i will give you that, but he just isn't strong enough nor does he have the footspeed of some of the other runners that he will be competing against. Sorry to ruin your day.

Pifer will take out the race, and Lomong will set on his outside shoulder and take the lead with 300 to go, and no one will catch him. There will be a bunch of runners under 3:40...

Solares: 147.69

First off, where is there a 145 guy in there?

Lastly, HE HAS THE SPEED TO MATCH ANYONE!

Don't run your mouth unless you know the facts! Anyone can come on here and say Lomong (example) can run a 143, but he hasn't!

He's hardly a sure thing with plenty of contenders, but it's Manzano's race to lose.

No where in my submissions did I say he would win. I just said that he could be in the mix and that he can (if everything goes to plan).

No one in this field can be overlooked.

Hey Einstein, are you under the impression that all these guys just took up running for the first time this year? Or did you ever consider that some of them may have run fast times -- like, say, 1:45 -- last year?

Lancashire ran 1:45 last year. This year he is obviously working more on the aerobic side but if you think he couldn't drop at least a 1:46 then you are foolish. Rono and Lomong have the best range. If you watch the 800m at Stanford on flotrackr you will see that Lomong ran a 1:47 while going out SLOW. He closed in about 52.?. Rono has run everything from 800m-10,000m (I think - too lazy to look it up!) in a qualifying time. Plus he is the defending champ after running down a 1:45 guy last year (Lancashire). Manzano is quite obviously a great kicker. The pace did not go fast indoors and he still won so your theory on him being able to win only off a fast pace is flawed. That being said I think he has the best chance to win off a slow pace as Lomong, Lancashire and Rono were not running the mile indoors.

Should be fun to watch.

Yea, lancashire definitely ran 1:45 lst year, but I just don't see him winning. Furthermore, I think Lomong is the most talented in the field by virtue of his range(1:47 consistently,an impresive 749 to win the 3k and a 4th in NCAA xc to boot). However, Manzano still seems to be the favorite because everything seems to click with him at this distance. And someone mae a prediction post without Amx Smith in the top five. i seriousl doubt that, he is an experienced, smart racer. If he doesnt go for the kill, he'll definitely be top five.

One last note, is that I hope Lomong doesn't run it, Id love to see him due it out with Solinsky in the 5k.-although he doesnt look incredibly sharp this year, any inside info on solinsly's fitness?

Manzano ran sun 1:50 in the prelims of the Big 12 meet last year..

Don't count Billy Berlin out of any race. That's all you need to know.
