You ruined it. You ruined the whole thread. How can anyone top Dean?
Have you ever heard of the saying,"Pigs get greedy, but hogs get slaughtered. Since the DQ of '05 in Hartford, I have facelifted myself and have hooked up with coach O'Neill here in Rhody. Here are some results.

You ust be that pig that got swallowed up by the tornado we had here in Rhode Island or that Kevin Gray guy I fully respect that ran with my coach and Shad Miller at this past running of the Cape Cod Marathon. I take my hats off to Shad Miller for his win and stellar day at the Cape back in October.

I read a story in the Charlotte Observer prior to the '96 Olympics about a guy training for the games. He convinced his employer, a bank, that he was a legitamite marathon contender. They set up a program for him where he got paid for 40 hours a week, but worked only 20-25 so he could train properly. This went on for almost two years. The problem is that the guy had a PR of 2:28-2:30. The story quoted the bank officials saying how much positive publicity they were expecting to get for their actions when this guy medaled. The guy had obviously told the employer quite a story.
these stories always pop up every Olympic cycle. I was written up in the company newsletter as training for the Olympics when my best 10k was 29:51....I didn't say that, but the corporate hack ran with that angle.
I got no time off or special privliges...I was training to try to qualify for the trials but that was it.
Rosi Ruiz?
Hollywood. Anyone else here know Hollywood?
I don't get the one about the guy at the gym. You have a year --sometimes more if there is a one time qualifier (such as Twin Cities 05 for the women)--to qualify.
Anthony,
I am glad to hear you have decided not to cheat anymore? I just have two simple questions.
1. What were you thinking when you starting the 2004 Cape Cod Marathon, then hiding, and jumping in at the end?
2. What or who made you realize it was wrong what you did, and that you needed to make a clean start?

he was telling people that he had already qualified for the OLYMPICS, not the trials. (he wasn't even a competitive runner; a total scam).
I once told a girl in a bar I won the Oly 400 meters in 2004. It worked too, I showed her a medal from a high school invite from about 8 years ago. My 400 PR is 52.7
Benefits of being a skinny white guy.
A guy at my college kept telling everyone he was a state champ in the hurdles. He was always "thinking about going out for track." For a while some people were really trying to convince him till someone googled him and found out that one of his teamates was the champ and he hadn't even been in state.
Not in person, but those of you who've been around here a while will know what I'm talking about:
magpie
a neighbor kid, when we were in 9th grade, said he'd run a 4:15 mile on a 1 mile loop that we had in our area; but never wanted to run an all out one around anybody. He said he timed it himself one summer night when he was really in the zone. (his best time in 10th grade, last year was 4:41.

Actually, it would be genuinely interesting to hear this -- we have a lot of crap on letsrun, but stories like this are really what the website is all about.
Fika and Sergio Motsoeneng, Comrades Marathon, South Africa, June 1999
Running a 90km race can be tiring, so why not share the load? That was the idea of the Motsoeneng brothers, who, though not twins, strongly resemble one another. By exchanging places with his brother at toilet stops and aided by car lifts at various stages, Sergio finished ninth. This came as a surprise to those behind him, who couldn't recall being overtaken. The brothers were exposed when television footage revealed them to be wearing watches on different arms.
Never got a chance to meet him, but he went to my high school:

Our coach has some good stories about him.
I think it fits in the same category......Brooks Johnson.
And he still gets away with it til this very day.
Bump
I used to run at times with a guy in his late 20s who would be running the same loop as me in the park. He always had the latest, expensive shoes on. He told me that he was sponsored by Adidas and got all his shoes sent to him free. I was doubtful to say the least, since I never saw this guy at any races or had heard of his name, but, no big deal; A 'little white lie' that made him feel important. One night at the local Footlocker, I was in line to buy some shorts and who do I see in line, in front of me with 2 boxes of new running shoes?...you guessed it. He told me he was buying them for some family members, but you could tell he felt a little sheepish. I didn't call his bluff, figuring it was best to not get the guy upset or call him a liar as you don't know how deep the neurosis goes with some of these guys.
I know it's not running, but I worked with a guy at a hospital, in housekeeping, for a summer job in college. He always took the bus to work but was always telling us about his car collection that included a Corvette, Porche 911 and a Cobra Mustange. He said that they were too valuable to drive to work, that's why he took the bus.
