Although not a distance runner, a guy on my track team eats almost exclusively McDonalds and honey buns, and consistently runs low 46's and his times have gotten progressively faster every season and continue to do so.

Just kidding. I'm nearly addicted to coffee and drink it a few hours before races. It always seems to help, as long as I don't have it too long before, which makes me crash.
