Go Boulder Express Distance Project!!
after the race, the Beast ate finishers 2 through 9
James may be the biggest OTC qualifier.
damn, that is the biggest marathon runner i've ever seen
great race by Daniel Hughes in his first marathon 2:23 for 2nd place! Well done mate
Wow, so much for the hotbed of running. 2:21? The Nike-OTC marathon used to be routinely won in 2:10 in the late 70's/early 80's.
Why did that race disappear?

obvious answer: lack of prize money or appearance fees. Yes, you are right. I ran in the old OTC marathon, back in the mid 80s, when it was in Sept. I ran around 223 and got 60th or something. This race must not have any NIKE involvement or sponsorship to any degree. These days most races seem to fall in the money/elite runners or no money/peoples type of races. Not many in between anymore.
Actually, Nike did chip in. Check the website.
Can Canadians run in your OT marathon? :)
Used to be guys ran 2:10-12 just to do it. There were no prizes, just the challenge.

yes, and at the elite level, thank God those days are over. I'd like to see A-Rod, Kobe Bryant or Peyton Manning get out there and play, just for the challenge.
god, are 80's runners annoying

When you ran the OTC marathon in the 80s, was it on the roads in Eugene?
Course description is in Moore's "Bowerman and the Men of Oregon". How did your marathon debut go?

Lost in the banter about the mediocre men's race is 23 year old recent Princeton grad Meredith Lambert's first marathon--with minimal training while working at a law firm, she got a win and and trials qualifier. Go Meredith!
No, it was about half on roads, half on the bike trail along the river.
