I agree though, if the school buys it and he uses it no big deal. That just like at my school someone needed a heart rate monitor and that was bought and they used it. they just didn't keep it. obviously an altitude tent is bigger, but same idea.
Man! The thing that strikes me is how lucky we are to have what we do. Looking at the pictures on this site of the trip to Kenya was very very interesting. Clearly, they have enough to be as great as they are, but look at the track Chebii was training on and then picture the U of O facilities. The discrepancy is tremendous.

Even as a current UCR grad student, I cannot believe he would consider UCR. The team is not good for DI and the place is not exactly a runners paradise (heat and pollution and desert). That being said I still like it at UCR but for him to come to a non-ideal running environment and sub-par DI team would be crazy. I'm glad he chose Oregon.
Al Sal pays for Rupp's trips around the world to race and for for Rupp's altitude tent, Nike will pay for Hall's too. Why would Chad go to Oregon for less than full when Colorado'education is twice the price tag and Wetmore in fact offered Hall a FULL RIDE! I love the speculation. It is very sensational, it's like red thai curry in comparison to oatmeal, even if it's all hot air.
There are loads of kids turning down full rides every year to go to the school that they want to. Many of them don't care that the "price tag" at one school is more than the other, or that one school overall is rated better than another. Why? Because these guys are runners first and foremost, and they realize that with any college degree and any amount of work ethic, there is still a world of opportunity open to them after they are done with running.
He went to Oregon because it was his number #1 choice, period. Since you're not running or studying for him, why not let him run his own way? My prediction is, his future is bright.
Some of these kids are more open minded and team oriented than the "adults" on this board. If you look at the talent that Oregon currently has, and think about how they have to manage for future recruiting classes, it's pretty easy to understand getting a partial scholarship in exchange for being able to build the best running team in the country.

The reason he was even considering UCR is because of Irv Ray. If you recall, Irv was Ryan Hall's primary coach during Ryan's stellar 4:02 1600 junior track season.
Also, I'm way glad that Chad chose Oregon. No offense to us, but UCR SUCKS!

Dont know if youve been looking at Riverside results lately... but just cuz the alot of the guys have been having their share of problems doesnt mean THE WHOLE team is doing bad... maybe you should take a look at the girls.. they seem to be getting it done...
