this is as good as a question as why do runners with good form sometimes suck

well she's getting her feet down/landing correctly and not banging her heel into the ground. Thus her footstrike and even her legs are working pretty well.
That 13.11 you mention was an American Record betering Centro's best from early that summer of 82. Not too shabby.

I believe some of the Athletics West coaches tried to "fix" Salazar's stride as well. He never ran faster than the 13:11 he posted with his "broken" stride.
You are right about all of the greats, but did they really practice this? I think if we were to watch video footage of a young Bekele running across a grass field it would look awfully close to his current day form.
This is an interesting discussion that seems to come up quite a bit around here.
His arm carry is worse than his stride.

Did you read that at Dyestat or something? didn't happen. Salazar never worked with an Athletics West coach, he worked with Bill Dellinger.

And did you read any of my other posts on this thread? I acknowledged that I was wrong about this, so thanks for bringing it up a second time.
I have stated this on similar threads as well: Form drills are the icing on the cake. If you are a professional runner with nothing to do but eat, sleep, run and repeat, then the extra edge might be gained from doing them.
However unlike many form happy U.S. distance runners, these form drills done by the East Africans are in addition to a heavy volume of daily running, 2-3 times per day.
What I am basically saying is that most runners will be better served using the time normally allocated for "form/drills", for additional running. Instead of doing a 45 minute run with 30-40 minutes of form drills, do an 80 minute continuous run instead. Or if form drills are replacing a second run of the day, don't do form drills. Just my 2 cents, but I don't think the lack of form drills is what is hindering U.S. distance running development.

That's not true at all. I've seen plenty of fast guys running fast at speed who looked like hell down below. Most people have.
Exactly. For people who may be legitimately pressed for time the best thing to do is more running, not 30 minutes of form drills that replaces 4-5 miles of running.
You can get quite a lot of benefits from "just" concentrating on form when doing strides and pickups 1-2 times a week. Not hard.
does abdi heal strike?
I think he does heel strike-look at the 2nd pic+the video also
I'm guessing he hasn't gotten injured yet because he is skinny-less weight=less force on knees, hips and ankles. Or mabye he has gotten injured from it. i don't know. Does anyone know abdis speed? (400, 800 or 1500m prs)
