UNC cut's "All-American" 800 Runner...

Maybe he was hanging with KK and Brie and got caught in a compromising position in the pole vault pit after practice?

I know we werent happy when they didnt take the mens team to Penn relays or any other meets last year after outdoor conf meet because apparently they didnt run well enough at ACCs to continue the season. The guy we coached in HS(tristram) ran 2 PRs at ACCs in 15 and 5 and still didnt get to go. The women are running well now obv but the men definitely dont seem to get the same attention for whatever reason. Luckily he is on morehead/house(whichever it is) scholarship so he doesnt have to worry about that thank god.

Is anyone going to defend UNC and say that not all these people quit or were forced off the team? I mean, I'm reading through this, just waiting for someone to offer some rebuttle against this accusation, but if none come, I guess I'm just as horrified as everyone else.

And I can run pretty fast and still know that Tyson Evenson didn't transfer from Princeton, he got kicked out, with that in mind, I'm sure something happened at E-town for his removal as well.

i don't understand, if he is ineligible due to academics, how was he able to run indoors? Our team has lost a few guys due to academic issues, but they were out for the entire track season (indoor and outdoor).

It seems likely there is a lot more to this story than the 1:48 800m he's capable of.

He got into a fight at a bar this past weekend with several guys about one of the guys girlfriend. He got beat up pretty bad. This is likely why he is gone

i can assure you that wasn't the main reason he was released, but i'll bet it was a determining factor. also i don't think getting jumped by 5 frat guys on the sidewalk constitutes a "bar fight." Plus if this is the main reason for ragan's dismissal, then it highlights further inequity at unc. Brie felnagle was ARRESTED last year and got a slap on the wrist. Laura Cummings' gpa shows that academics aren't the main driving force either in cutting athletes. regardless, i think the main point of this thread currently is the lack of retention at unc and not ragan's reason of dismissal. it seems just about anything will set off the unc coaches...evidenced by Kevin Watson (a captain at the time) being released for sticking up for a teammate who was late getting to a team bus going to UNCC.

No, as long as you leave the school in good academic standing, or still graduate even if you aren't on the team; it does not hurt the graduation rate.

I went to UNC on a small scholarship, worked my ass off, made decent grades and graduated with a full ride.

It does happen.

I am not going to go into that list of former UNC athletes.

As far as I am concerned, 90% of those guys still have good things to say about the program, but left for other reasons. The other 10% deserved to be dismissed, and would probably agree with me at this point.

I am sorry to hear about Clay, that is a shame. I was also sorry to hear that he was assaulted by frat boys, that makes me extremely angry. 20 hours of study hall is nothing, that is like 3 hours a day/night. If you are failing your classes, studying for 3 hours a day is probably a good idea. Think about it, that is 2 hours during the day, and 1 after practice. They have tutors/food/drinks and everything available at study hall, I used to go all the time by choice.

It is better than the Libraries.

I've heard of 2 fellas who were in the Big 10 and got cut under the guise of poor times. However, I think both were scorers in XC and one of them ran one of the fastest miles on the team that year.

Those two Big Ten runners were cancers to the team and the team was much better off without them. One of them is a complete douche and still emails the coach like a psycho demanding an explanation for his dismissal.

Is this some kind of joke? They will definately not score well in the ACC with that move, as Reagan is on their Indoor ACC Champ 4x4 team, and scored in the 800 individually...Coaching positions should seriously be observed by UNC officials after this obserd incident.

I can GARUNTEE that over 35% of all those guys who were terminated or quit have negative things to say about the program and the coaches. The majority that quit left because they were unhappy with the program and the inability for the coaches to do their job, not because they had "other reasons".
