What kind of a 10k time would a 2:55 marathoner run?

Good luck with the 3:10. At nearly 64, I don't know if I can crack into the 3s at all -- wish I could, though.

Let's compare other distances, just for fun (all these times were in my late 30s)

1 mi -- 5:00.8

5 mi -- 28:02

20k -- 1:13:33

50 mi-- 7:23:25

when i was running strongly there were no 5k road races around. I did 2.8 mi in 15:18 and 3.6 mi in 19:53, and a 19.1 mi race (eventually shortened to 30k) in 1:57:32.

I'd bet an old pair of running shoes that your times aren't very different.

My Mum ran 2.55 at London in 2005 (aged 50 I have to point out! Check the results if you don't believe me) and ran 37.14 for 10km ten weeks before.

She also ran 1.22.58 for a half two weeks after her 10km. In the 10km she ran her fastest ever 5km for the final 5km. She reckons this is the absolute fastest she could ever go.

I would guess most 2:55 guys are running 36 or 37 min for 10km.

Okay, as part of my quest to figure out who you are:

1) Did you and a friend run a marathon in high school? He got under 3 hours and you didn't.

2) Did you run Boston a couple of years ago?
