I was on the lead truck and had him at 59:42.2 on my watch. Final time should be 59:43 or 59:44.
Splits were extraordinary (my own watch): 14:05, 28:21, 42:21 and 45:33 at ten miles. Probably broke his own 20-K record, but no chip mat or timers at 20-K. We approximatd 57:06, but it was hard to see back that from from the truck.

If reports of this time are true then this is a massive breakthrough for Hall from good in the US to absolute world class. As the list shows above that should put him comfortably in the top 10 of all time and as annother poster said is certainly equivalent to sub 27 or sub 13.
Congrats to him - whatever he decides to do at the Olympics in '08 he can challenge for a medal be it 10k or Marathon.
holy crap. Now I just want to fast forward to see if he runs the 10K at somewhere like Brussells. After this, there is no reason to think that Ryan Hall would not have a shot at the 10K AR, or a Medal in the 08 Marathon. Maybe we will see him make the final of the World Champs 10k.

That\'s a nice list, but it\'s not accurate. I know Zarsennay Tadesse has to be up there in the top5 (59:05).

Ryan Hall ran an amazing race today, but I remember him starting off his season really strong last year on the roads and the XC course and then under performing on the track last year. Hopefully this is a new Ryan that can steadily improve into the outdoor season and not the same ryan that starts off Hot and then burns out before the outdoor season begins.
The 35th Chevron Houston Marathon and its sister events, including the Aramco Houston Half Marathon are under way on the city's streets.
Feyisa Tusse of Ethiopia won the 26.2 mile race in 2 hours, 11 minutes, 28 seconds. Dire Tune, also of Ethiopia, took the women's marathon title in 2:26:51, good for a new course record.
Earlier this morning, U.S. runner Ryan Hall won the half-marathon (13.1 miles) in 59 minutes, 42 seconds in what is unofficially a course and American record. Two-time U.S. Olympian Elva Dryer won the women's half-marathon in 1:11.
I believe Tadesse ran that in Great North Run, sligthly downhill (30.5m).
Other fast times are from Lisbon (69.0m)

That is true but I think we are only 2 weeks into 2007 and it is going to be very hard for another American (Lagat not included) distance runner to better this performance. Webb can run 3.48 again, Teg can run 13.01 and Ritz can do whatever he wants but Hall's sub 60 half will still be the best performance.

I think that Hall is going to have a super year. Last year he and Sara were living out of their suitcases - they now own a house so they have a place they can go home to. That is going to make a big difference for him. It is great to see so many great performances at the 1/2 champs.
Good call on the downhill. Thanks for putting together the list. Either way, that was an AMAZING race by Hall. I'm shocked that he pulled that off.

Frog Man, if Hall never runs another step in his life this will still stand as an amazing race. Who cares if he runs faster this year, the dude just broke 1:00 in the half. Absolutely incredible. Congrats to Hall.
How about Fasil Bizuneh. He has run two 1:02 half marathons in 2 months. That kid is getting siiiiick.
Breaks the very long standing AR of Curp, who ran 1:00:55, and breaks it by a ton. Dave Monti, can you comment if the course is record acceptible, i.e., loop course? Also the weather, which typically is too humid to make for fast times. Huge congrats to Ryan, Curp's AR made him Runner's World runner of the year, to break the time by 73 seconds, wow!
also todd williams ran under one hour in japan someplace but that effort was not good for the american record (wind,..point-to-point).

So, I was in Houston being a spectator and saw Ryan Hall crossing the finish line in ~59:40 setting an AR record. But I have a VERY valid reason to doubt this time. As usual the announcer was giving updates and reported to the crowd that the HM leader at the time, the Ethiopian, was only 10 minutes away from the finish line. This is right arond 52 min (that's what the clock read). I was right at the finish line and could view the final 150 meters. So, I was expecting the leaders to emerge around the corner somewhere around 62 min. To my surprise, I see Ryan and no one behind him. I can't believe that he has the ability to open a 2:40 lead in the last 10 minutes. I think he cut the course somewhere in the last 2 miles. Was it intentional or not? I don't know. Its only speculation, but this is what think. I'm not hating on him. I would love it if the 59:40 is legit. But I have doubts. He won by 2:40. COME ON GUYS! I don't think Ryan has that in him.
