If you can't break 55 you may waste years focusing on the 10,000 where you might be a 28:00 guy who makes some world cross teams but will never have a chance to make an Olympic team on the track.
Not to say you can have a lot of fun and make 500 bucks here and there out road races.
The marathon should be the main focus in this country if we have a shot of ever getting a medal in the world class scene. Actually I guess we did that recently with a 13:08 and 27:13 runner in Athens. Runnning 13:25 and 27:30 is tremendous but even Culpeppar figured that ultimately it would never amount to making a mark at the top level.
We can get all excited about Tegankamp running 13:04 but UNLESS he has 49 wheels ( and he just might) the big medals are owned by the guys who have that plus run 20 seconds faster.
