Benjamin Bratt's character on Law & Order said that Grimaldi's Pizza in Brooklyn is "the best in the five boroughs." It's true.
Bzzzt. Top 20, maybe. Better than the best pie within 25 miles of 97% of Americans outside NYC? But of course.
And Law & Order sucketh.
But you have to go to Brooklyn to get there. Take the A train to Brooklyn Bridge.
Much like you have to go somewhere to get anywhere.
Walk or run over the Brooklyn Bridge if you're not a lazy slob. That's the reason to go to (and often wait in a silly-long line for) Grimaldi's: it's a convenient pretty good place to eat after going over the bridge. There's an ice cream place right there too, and it's similarly decent but overrated.
Better yet, run the bridge, run to and around Prospect Park, and eat better pizza somewhere else.
Little India, row of super cheap very small Indian restaurants on east 8th street, I think, between 2nd avenue and A, but I can't quite remember.
Food's generally a few notches better at the Indian places which line "Curry Hill", Lexington Ave in the upper 20's.

Say what? Completely untrue. Daytime robberies are NOT common. They do occur, but are very, very rare. Unless you go at night, Prospect Park is completely safe if you stay on the main roads. Trust me. I run there every single day.
