Actually there is some truth to today being a special day. Today Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are all aligned almost perfectly on the far side of the Sun from the Earth. Given this effect, which only takes place every several hundred years, it is theoretically very possible that today would be an ideal day to set world records. But I would have assumed the "effect" would have been more beneficial to jumpers and throwers. Anyone know of anyone setting major PR's today in the jumps or throws.

The Cragg time in the 5,000m was out for a very long time before it was corrected (how hard would that have been to correct - interview him after the race - it took way too long to get corrected on the IAAF web page). The women's 1,500m results at another meet came out almost 5 seconds fast. (Those are the two I can remember, but there shouldn't be any.)
So it is not that crazy to ask the questions. What the hell is happening at these meets? It is not rocket science to have the correct and operable equipment, but there have already been mistakes, and in some big meets...
while i myself cant believe the times (my jaw literally dropped when TWO guys went below 12.91) i have to say i am sceptical. but cragg's time wasn't a machine fault, it was simply a mis-typing of names.

Why is everyone saying that tyson gay ran an amazing curve but go sucked up in the last 100? basically this means that x-man ( a 10.1, and 44.5 guy ) kicked in a 200m race to run faster than michael johnsons 2nd best time ever!
Theres no way! I have a ton of respect for x-man and gay, they are legit guys in the 200, but you just dont make jumps like that at that level. It took micheal johnson 4 years to get down to that level after college, and your telling me two guys do it on the same day two months out of college? CMON
Sprints are pathetic. World records are beat every couple years by some kid who comes out of no where. It shows that training hard has nothing to do with running fast in the sprints. Otherwise records would be set by those who have more epxerience/time training.
All the world's best 200 sprinters of all time just got schooled by some kid fresh out of college.
Maybe even MJ by the end of the summer.

The 200m record was last set in 1996 and before that in 1979 and before that I believe 1968.

All due respect to the man, Michael Johnson, but he never won a major championship in the 100 & 400! Let alone in the same meet with qualifying races.
