Chelsea?
Chelsea?!?
CHELSEA????
Oy.
Yup I noticed Da Shooz too.
Herb teaches elementary phys ed in Fremont, MI now. Has some kids in college. Looked good when I saw him last fall.
Herb was one of those guys who was a good miler-10k runner, probably could've been a good marathoner if he'd given it a real shot, but 15k-25k? Forget about it - he was TERRIFYING. He was MADE for those distances. At points during that time period, he could've beaten anyone in the world at those distances.

Even with the answers to the final exam you're failing the course. RIC ROJAS
In this photo pf 82 Boston, Ed Mendoza was up with the leaders Salazar and Beardsley. Does anyone know what mile mark the photo was taken?
T. Derderian's book says that at the fire station at Brae Burn hill, Beardsley pushed. Rodgers broke first, then Mendoza. I'm notsure what mile that would be - 18 or 20?
22 is the top of lake st after BC, bb is 20

The Newton fire station is at the 17 mile mark. That right turn up Comm Ave is probably 17.25 miles.
That seems exactly right, malmo. Tommy D has a route map at the front of his book, and 17.25 is right on. I blazed a 3:05 at Boston a few years back, but remember surprisingly little of the course aside from the start and finish.

It should be. I've run that section of the course more than a hundred times.
Great thread! Herb Lindsay is one of those guys that never seemed to get the attention that he deserved. He was a beast and definitely among the best in the world in his era, although I think his career was a little short lived.
Does anyone know the circumstances behind his retirement from road racing? I heard it was kind of premature and things did not end on good terms, but I don't know the real story.
As you requested, this the article about the McChesneys... Adobe Acrobat *.pdf file (1.3 MB)

servidos...
I checked with the Rojas himself:
Cool. Yes, that is me in the Falmouth pic. I finished 3rd. I passed everyone but Rod Dixon. I passed Herb with about 300M to go, but he came back and got me in the last 100.
