I don't see it OP. This will probably be the best weather Boston since Mutai's CR & 2:03 in 2011. What he had that day was a rabbit in Ryan Hall to go through halfway in 1:01-high. What we also don't have is someone like Mutai who was on a generational run. Do you know how hard it is to negative split Boston off of a crazy fast front half (wind aside)? The second half is slower. Mutai went on to run 2:05-flat NYC CR that was barely eclipsed in 2023 & held well into the super shoe era. Kipruto & Korir are maybe the only two guys with a shot. I think if they run the same 2:02 effort that got them those times in Tokyo + Valencia then they run something close to 2:02 in Boston on a fast weather day. Boston doesn't have pacers. You need the top guys to be in shape & to go for it from the gun. Ryan Hall was so good that nobody wanted to let him go early. If the top guys float some early 4:50-5:00 miles then it's game over for something like a 2:02. I think you need the 2011 weather & prime Kipchoge or Kiptum, with pacers, to give it a go. Idk what the winning time will be. It could be 2:02. It could be 2:05. I think what's more likely is we see a lot of guys under 2:10/2:09/2:08.

a marathon is nary run linearly

I saw a humanoid run a HM in 50 min. Sub 2 hour marathon doesn’t impress me anymore. Carbon based is so over rated

Boston is not a fast course. Top times in the supershoe era have been 2:05-06 while other races are consistently seeing 2:02-3.

There is the potential to see a course record with a tail wind and cool temps. But it may also be rainy with wet roads. That will work against the runners as traction will be an issue.

Finally, there is the issue of race tactics. I think Korir will go out fast. He split 1:01:54 last year. But he knows that the second half of the race is a beast and can crush you if you push the pace too hard the first half. So, I doubt anyone will be willing to go out under 1 hr.

Well, since this has turned into a thread on wheelchair racing, I wouldn't mind coverage of the wheelers so much if there was a real race to the finish. It just always seems like one wheeler is minutes ahead. If they were racing in a pack with close passes and a sprint finish, that would be worth watching, instead of watching one person rolling solo for a half hour.
