Langon wins races and gets clicks. What else is a shoe company really looking for? Most of the kids lacing up at high school track meets probably had no clue what Diadora was until Langon inked his NIL. Stop complaining and admit he's the real deal and is already surveying his options of the big bucks post graduation
Why would anyone give this guy a contract to represent their company?
I think if any of those companies see an opportunity to make money off of controversy they will sign him. We have never seen anyone like him in the sport before. Nobody on his level has ever been such a profane villain. He’s actually kind of funny, because he’s so outrageous, like a Marvel villain. He makes the sport a little more interesting because of his uniqueness . It’s good when there are real personalities behind the medals and the times. It’s boring when the athletes give predictable interviews or refuse to answer questions altogether.
I did criticize him quite a bit about a month ago in the aftermath of his aggressive racing tactics and interview remarks. However, I’ve reevaluated and I’ve changed my mind. We should value free speech and expression. His rhetoric may be the only way he knows how to express himself at the moment after such a rough personal life. I would say all the swearing isn’t my cup of tea and I do think it is objectively distasteful, but we shouldn’t give someone too much grief over words. He just needs to race fair and avoid the shoving and try not to like he wants to challenge people to fights. Keep it all verbal and don’t let any of it cross over to unnecessary fighting. My coach used to say let your boxing ring be the track. Hopefully he will eventually tone down some of his language and be a little bit more humble.
. . . I would say all the swearing isn’t my cup of tea and I do think it is objectively distasteful . . .
If Marco wins NCAAs, the every distance fan everywhere will be tuned in to his NBC post-race interview with Lewis Johnson . . .
Right. You can’t say that controversy doesn’t attract interest. It’s why those lousy talk shows in the 90s were so popular or any number of outrageous TikTok videos nowadays. Back in 2006 after Mottram ran 8:03 for two miles and won at Pre he told the NBC interviewer, “it comes down to the size of your b@#s really”. The tv stations aren’t normally ready for such vulgarity in track, but everybody was talking about it after Mottram said it and he brought a lot of fan interest in that year. I do think the distance runners can sound a bit sterile most of the time so it is nice to see someone who is so different.
Extremely impressive result from Hansen given a final lap like that coming off an injury. Excited to see what he does with more training and races under his belt this season.
What does ‘body bagging’ someone mean? Is this an American term? Does it refer to impeding/DQ?
It is short for putting someone "in a body bag". Which would mean that they were "dead" because you "killed" them. In this context it is an overly aggressive way to say you beat someone.

It means killing someone. Not literal in this context though.
Great job by Marco Langon. Fully expected this result.
XC aside, Marco is simply better than Hansen.
And the sky is blue. What else is new. John Hayes can’t coach his guys like o Sullivan. Honestly it might be time for Hayes to retire. Voleriani would be a good candidate for the job. Rock “Micro” Hansen runs a mediocre first race back, only 13:28 which does not cut it in today’s NCAA, and Charlie sprott, Joseph O’Brien, Aiden Ross, and their other previous 13:3X guys are all MIA. Gone fishing? What’s going on in Winston Salem??? Did Hayes’ 5k crew take the wrong turn off the highway into the town of Winston Salem and decide to set up shop in a log cabin out in the boonies? Why are they not racing? Are they even enrolled in classes?? Meanwhile the Nova Wildcats TM put 4 more guys under 13:42 all looking easy doing it. It’s clear who the better top dog and better coached program is. Hay’s in the barn, more like Hayes in the bar. Get that guy a clipboard and a whistle and have the deacons do some bleacher sprints. They’ve got soft sissy hands.
