Executive order aims to limit NCAA athletes to 5 years, 1 transfer

This executive order carries as much weight as me issuing a proclamation that I am the sexiest MF to ever walk the Earth. Trump is just pandering and distracting from tanking poll numbers, an unpopular war, and Epstein.

So, the federal government is gonna tell kids they can only transfer once? Why? Man, no one enjoys getting up in your business and telling folks what they can and can't do like the modern Republican party.

there is endless nuance in the existing rules. missions. military. when does the clock start. does juco count. my school didn't play me at all. i got hurt at x point in the season. does grad school count. is it years from when you turn 18. is it years from when you take full time hours. do those full time have to be 4 year or include juco stints. can i drop out and come back. is it years or semesters. are indoor and outdoor separate.

this is a vanity project, or tip toeing towards "throw the africans out" nativism, because it doesn't even try to be global. it says 5 years. it mentions 2 exceptions. the others are left vaguely to "public interest exceptions." these rules periodically change because even thoroughly involved, precise folks disagree or change their mind over time.

i personally thought he reinvented the wheel we already have. but by discussing it so superficially he confuses exactly how many of the other existing rules would be kept under "public interest." that doesn't fix anything.

Instead of focusing on time-clock and transfer, Trump should have gone after the international infestation that exists. This is supposed to be "America first" - so get rid of the Internationals. One almost beat our beloved Jane!! NCAA records should be for Americans only, as should being an All-American. They need to go back to their own countries.

If I had my way, there would only be citizens in this country - isn't that why we are deporting all the immigrants. Personally, I don't even like the idea of visitors to this country - all should be fitted with GPS trackers to follow their whereabouts, so they (and no I don't like the idea of tourists) can be nabbed and deported when they get in trouble, which is too often. Most tourists/visitors are here for no good anyway - don't trust any of them - often stealing medals that should belong to Americans.

What about the other president?

Are you kids aware that "Teddy" Roosevelt is responsible for the creation of the NCAA as a means to make football safer? Between 15-25 guys died playing football in 1905. After these deaths he had a summit at the White House and told them to fix the problem (he appreciated rough and tumble sport and activity).

From my layman's view, the current president took a similar/ modern approach.

Remember MLB showed no intent in getting a handle on the steroid problem and it took the government getting involved before things improved? Am I recalling that incorrectly? If so, disregard.

But if not, i see this as the same. No this probably won’t stand and no we would rather not have our government get involved in these matters BUT you also have to not be the wild wild west out of control organization that the NCAA and colleges are right now in sports. I think the whole Iowa State womens basketball team entered the portal. Regardless i think we can all agree that the system is completely without any guardrails right now and something has to be done. At minimum, hopefully this will PUSH the right folks to get off their ass and do something

Sort of. An executive order only applies to government workers. They can't force colleges to comply, but they can force federal workers to rescind federal funding from colleges that do not comply. This can then be challenged in court.

Congress does not ever approve an executive order. What could happen is that this order puts some pressure on congress to pass an actual law for college sports. This has been in the works with that famous college athlete Ted Cruz sponsoring a bill.

What's been missing though in recent discussion has been participation by athletes and their agents.

Exactly im at a toxic school and need to transfer. I never could've know that the environment would be awful and other people run into this issue I get the five year limit but don't limit the number of tranfers. Does anyone think this will pass?

You can still transfer, just must sit out a year athletically if it's your 2nd or more xfer.

first off, he got them together to sit down and write some rules. that already happens now.

second, he didn't tell them what the rules are, or try to override them.

you're trying to say he's teddy. teddy had a soul. teddy did antitrust. trump is mckinley making his donors rich with tariffs right before teddy. to which teddy responded with trust busting.

If the NCAA stops you from transferring find a lawyer and sue the NCAA and the federal government. Under the current laws you will win... it is an anti-trust violation to limit your ability to make a living.

I actually want congress to make carve out laws (guidelines) for college athletics but this EO is unenforceable under current laws.

This is just another attempt by this administration to distract the public from what is really happening.

The vast majority of people only care about football and basketball, where there are not many foreign student athletes. Most don’t even care if cross country exists let alone being bothered by the number of Kenyan runners.
