I liked this interview!
One my observations in endurance sport is how the champions have a level of self-awareness that non-champions don't. Champions are really smart and they seem to intuitively understand the cost-benefits of their decisions and why they are doing what they do. They aren't masochists like many amateurs that choose hard workouts because they are hard. They choose hard workouts because they know it will make them fast. If you want to be the best, you need genetics of course, but what you really need is the perfect combination of self-awareness and a desire to succeed. You need to confidence to got hard on some days and the confidence to chill out on others.
It's hard to explain exactly, but Keely clearly has IT.
Second note, she presents as the physical embodiment of conventional femininity. Thin, long highlighted blond hair, makeup, fake tan, white teeth, girly clothing. She's perfectly calibrated to appeal to the white male gaze. But all of that physical presentation feels like armor on her not affect. Like she knows what she is doing with her style. She's telling the world....yeah, you may see me a certain way, but go ahead and judge my appearance, I'll still rip your Fing legs off on the track. Love to see her do it her way.
