The DMR split meanwhile was a difficult positive split 57.9/59.8/63.2/62.5 for that 4:04.73.
Those other three races—in each, he has a massive gear shift at about 400-350 to go, just. a huge surge to take the lead, and then has the strength to go again if another super talent like Hassan sticks on him. 13:30, 8:30, 3:56, 1:47.5 all within reach and I wonder what type of altitude training he does and if he responds... NAU would be excellent
Pacers? In mile races billed as CHAMPIONSHIP races at both NIKE and NBIN...thoughts on that? My view is that by trying to manufacture sub 4 times, you have pacers, actually in both that ran past the 2:20's mark, so, if you cannot get out in 2:01? You are completely disconnected, I think if they are billed as Championship races, runners kind of have to figure that stuff out for themselves. NC's Nat, USATF, they don't have no stinkin' pacers..LOL..thoughts, and how long have they been doing that, do you know what mile lists would have looked like from years ago? With pacers?
I don't necessarily disagree, but NIN and NBIN are both championships in name only. The top kids are split between the two meets and you have a million 'emerging elite' relays to pad numbers, these are just big invitationals with somewhat tougher entry standards.
Spencer was able to hold off Mantecon on a xc course. I don’t think he’s gonna be able to contain him on the Track. I think his combination of speed and strength is special.
Hopefully will be the type of athlete to make a big impact college freshman year, the way Kitchen just did this year. Will not surprised if he can scare Simmons 5k record next year.
Let's hope he doesn't get burned out. Just a couple of weeks ago he tripled in the same day with something like 4:12/1:50/8:55, another great performance and I could be off slightly with the times. Then he quadruples indoors, that's a lot of races already and from what I remember raced a lot in XC also. Belen is also known for running a ton of miles and college type workouts. Let's hope he slows down a little bit as outdoors is a long season and I'd like to see an 8:30 3200/2 mile battle between him and Spencer.

In fairness Tiago Socarras has transitioned to the college ranks quite well

Agree on Socarras. As great as Mantecon is he ain’t getting 4th as a true frosh in NCAA. Belen has a graveyard of 9:00 guys that have done zero in the NCAA.
Apparently he took 5 weeks off after Brooks XC (dec 13). This is according to an interview he did this weekend, and he specifically said that he did no cardio other than a ski trip.
If true, this means he had a 7-8 week buildup prior to Nike Indoor.

That Brooks XC battle those two put on in Fall '25 was epic. Just rewatched the other day. Mantecan was determined to bury Spencer after NXN, but last mile turned into an all out war. That kid is gritty.
