Hashimoto leading the pack by over 40 seconds at 15k
I hope he's getting paid to do this. Because if it's for just some BS like Japanese pride or honor, it's pathetic to go out at an unsustainable pace only to eventually embarrass yourself by crashing out for absolutely nothing.
A couple unheralded Kenyans in the first main group - 2:14 man Felix Kurui and dubutant Clinton Ktum. Ktum's first race outside Kenya I think, can't find a WA profile for him.
All the big international names there, maybe except 2:04 man Abayneh Degu

Yeah. A 209 guy going out in 206 because your training indicates 207 is impressive. But going out in 202 is dumb.
The coverage on Flotrack has been solid. They occasionally flip to the wheelchairs but it's only for a moment. I guess they could cover the women more. Not sure if the FloTrack video is the same as the Japanese stream.
According to Japan Running News, Hashimoto also did this last year in Osaka apparently, running up front until 30k, when he faded, but managed to run 2:09:40, an almost nine minute PB

I admire Hashimoto. Guys like him have something inside him that you’ll never be able to understand.

I think it's embarrassing what this guy is doing. At some level going for it is cool, but not if you are a 2:09 guy going out in 2:02 pace. I mean I just started paying attention 57 minutes in> He looks like he's about to fall over already.
Going for it is Japanese. Embarrassing yourself and making a farce of the race should be frowned upon. That's what this guy is doing.
If you're last 3 marathon results are 80th in Osaka, 32nd in Osaka and 14th at Gold Coast, I give race organizers full permission to tackle you if you get a 45 second lead 15k in to the race.
Almost no chance Hashimoto hangs on but he did run really aggressively at the New Year Ekiden and finished 8th on the longest (2nd) stage. Same time that day as Ryota Kondo who is today billed as one of the Japanese favourites and has run 2:05:39. So while this is crazy, Hashimoto is probably much better than his 2:09:40 suggests
