Andrew Carlson (current Bradley University head coach, formerly at Louisville and North Dakota State), placed 6th at the 2012 Olympic marathon trials in 2:11:24. He was also a 3x All-American while running for Minnesota back in his college days.
Ed eyestone is definitely the best at doing both. He somehow has used the mormon environment to his advantage on both fronts. Nobody has said Chris Fox yet but he was good at everything back in his day and rebuilt Syracuse.
For men’s it would be Carl Lewis likely with Leroy Burrell was world record holder. On the distance side not sure anyone was better than Paul Ereng (Texas A&M), Olympic Gold.
Rod Dehaven head coach at South Dakota State won the 2000 Olympic trials in the marathon and was the only one to represent U.S. in the marathon in Sydney.
