The early Kinvara's were pretty spectacular (1s and 2s) as a do it all shoe. really loved the New Balance RC 1400 as a flat/lightweight trainer combo. Funny how that was at once "cushioned". Similar timeframe the New Balance 890s were a great light do it all trainer.
The easy winner is the Pegasus Turbo however. 1 or 2.
Any chance you remember an orange colored new balance racer from around the time period Khannouchi was running? I had some RC something or a rather. I think it was lighter than the 205.
It wasn't the RC 152 was it? Had a pair of these in college. Preferred it over spikes depending on the day.
That shoe was so good. Cant believe I forgot it. Inexpensive. Durable. Light. Could do it all from long run to quicker stuff. I bought up all the ones in my size I could find for years. They changed the foam the next year and it wasn't the same. That shoe was great.
For me, Topos and Alpha Flies. I stopped getting seriously injured when I switched to this training combo a couple of years back (Alphas for workouts).
Of course, its going to depend on your own foot shape and running style but this has done wonders for me.
Similar rotation works well for me. Altras for daily and trails. A plethora of Next % 2/3s for sessions.
Is it THE BEST? No. The fit wasn't great. It was, by today's raching shoe standards, heavy
But, V1, the OG, of the Clifton was a game changer in the running industry.
First, it was the first real "Maximalist" shoe to hit the market for road running that got wide adoption. It was a monster hit for running specialty stores.
There would be no Vaporfly, Alphafly, Puma Nitro, etc without this shoe, the technology, the cushioning and the mass adoption by the masses.
The Puma Deviates 2 - the 1st “Universal Trainer” that could do everything from light trails to road races. Puma ruined it in the V3. The last one is a bit better but still crap compared to the V2.
I still think these hold up pretty well against today's spikes. Just for funsies I threw them on for an all-comers meet a couple years ago and still ran what I was expecting.
It threatened the track and field record books—and Adidas’s place atop the footwear hierarchy. What happened next was part Cain and Abel, part cloak-and-dagger.
They were revolutionary and catapulted carbon plated shoes onto the running scene.
The OG models still seemed to have the most bounce to them. I heard something on the boards about the foam being slightly different or manufactured somewhere else which could be the case.
Anyway, i really like the original Streak XC. Super light, had some pop, perfect for Mile-10k. I even ran a marathon in them although they completely trashed my legs after.

someone already mentioned it but the adidas boston 5-7 were the most versatile and durable shoes pre-super era. honourable mention for the early Kinvaras as well.
anybody else where the early Hoka super shoes? they were just placebo building off the hype before they caught up with the super shoe technology.

It was most likely just placebo since it was most people's first experience with super shoes.
The original Nike peg turbo with the red racing stripe. Nothing has ever compared for me in terms of an all around training shoe. Felt like flying for short intervals and cruising for longer stuff.
