and 3:28 (world #2) and 12:46 and then broke his arm. he's not this board's favorite runner but mills was extremely fit last year. no one was faster over 1500/5000 in 2025; this would hardly be unimpressive from 19 year old cameron myers.
And then Mills went MIA in Tokyo. All I'm saying is: Indoors, don't read too much into it.
Rupp, Centro, Mo Farah, Geb, etc all made indoor a focal point. They did pretty well.
From today next weeks mile shapes up to be a great one. Myers 3:46.0, Hobbs 3:46.2, Naguse 3:46.4, Hoey 3:47.5
Have to believe the field will be paced to 3:45-flat in an attempt to break Jakob's 3:45.14 WR from last year.
At what point is someone going to just see being in 3:44 pace in February as stupid/dangerous/pointless. Unless you churn out a 3:42 in the summer- it’s got to end up feeling like a waste
I should have wrote who do you think has upper hand next week at Millrose after today? Looks like a coin toss. But both off to a roaring start this indoor season.
Ok, I thought you meant who had the more impressive performance today.
If Nuguse wasn't there I'd say Hobbs, as I think he's got the better kick finish. But Nuguse will keep the pace hot and Myers is very strong at the moment from the Aussie summer base. So Myers for me.
Vegemite Toast is the BEST!!!
Now that the important stuff has been taken care of....
The BEST performance goes to Hobbs in the 2000m over Cam's 7:27 (IMO). A huge shout out to Grant Fisher and his 4:49. If any of you have ever run an all out 2000m, it's freakin' hard! The race strategy is simply to run a mile all out, and then hold on for another 400m. It's ballz brutal.
Who's gonna win at Millrose? I'm going with Meyers. His 3:49 in Washington was effortless (I was there). When he dropped the hammer, it was GAME OVER. He simply accelerated away from a quality field and literally was time trialing the last 400m. Had this race been competitive, he's running 3:46-47. The 3000m time is indicative of his current strength/endurance, if the pace at Millrose is HOT, which it will be, he has a legit shot to break the WR. Hobbs will be in the hunt, but I don't think he will be able to withstand WR pace and be able to kick home like in Boston.
Nonetheless, these dudes are wicked fit, and I can't wait to see what the outdoor season brings for both of them.

Yeah, kicking off a hot pace and that gear shift has been the one missing ingredient in the past for Hobbs. I always thought it was a lack of aerobic fitness in his case to not have that gear shift at end. In his post NB ravlce interview, he said he upped his weekly mileage and was doing way more threshold work. He has always had wheels (800 pb of 1:43xx), but you're never going to access them in a 1500 if you are gassed. So his words on training are encouraging. He didn't look super taxed after that 2000 either. Gonna be a great race.
