Has anyone looked at the comments under this facebook post? They’re pissed she announced her pregnancy. Is there some kind of cultural precedent for kenyans to not announce their pregnancy until birth. Imagine if Beatrice didn’t race at all in 2026 and didn’t say why. Letsrun would be filled to the brim with accusations of her being secretly banned.

Hey Cedrion.
You nailed it. That's exactly what it is. In many Kenyan families, pregnancies are often kept private beyond the immediate circle until later in pregnancy or even until birth. The pregnancy period is seen as highly sensitive, so families normally limit who knows to reduce stress on the mother. Baby showers are also pretty much obsolete until after the baby is born.
At the end of the day, it's definitely very common that Kenyans are quite hush when pregnant which is what we're seeing here with Beatrice.

People are only confident talking about their pregnancy once it starts to show and even then, don't want to make a big to do because they don't want to jinx it. And yes, showers are typically after the birth (or very close to it). Gender reveals are an absolute abomination and completely unheard of even amongst the most westernised Kenyans. You will know what you need to know when the baby is born and confirmed to be healthy.
Perfect time for maternity. Beatrice has won everything there is and, with world records too, so the only things left are repeats. This is exactly what Faith did.

Yeah, and it’s often the same thing in the U.S. Either way, she’s not going to be at the starting line at World XC.
Good for Chebet, but from a selfish athletics perspective I'm disappointed we won't get to see what she could've done this year. Honestly think she could've gotten close to sub 8 for 3000m.

Honestly, you typing 8:00, and her running that fast are different things. It’s equivalent to running 3:47 and 13:44. She’s fast, but not that fast.

If she had waited until she was in her early 30s, and maybe past her prime, it wouldn’t be bad for Chebet.
