I could be wrong, but I think way back in 2022 (the year she was 3rd in the 800 DL final) she was talking about moving up to the mile the next year, and just running the 800 to work on her speed. She was an NCAA mile champ/1500 silver in college, so moving to the 800 was seen as a bad move when she didn’t make the team, although after her 3rd in the DL final maybe things changed.
I might be thinking of someone else, I don’t have time to go looking right now, but I think it was her. Either way, 1:55 800 speed is hard to beat as a miler. Apparently it’ll only get you 5th in the 800 though. But last year it took 3:55 to make the 1500 team, so I don’t have a strong opinion on which she should pick, I’ll just trust her and Ritz to make the decision. For all the flak he caught last year, I’m pretty sure OAC did better at Worlds this year than any other US group, and that’s with Nuguse not even making it. Big props to OAC, and Sage especially for finally making it to the big stage and running the race of her life.
I also found/find it surprising that Sage has chosen to focus on the 800m in her professional career. She was a four-time All-American in cross-country while at Colorado. Those achievements plus her indoor mile championship and 1500m runner-up performance led me to believe she’d focus on the 1500m as a pro.
But as you said, the decision is hers to make. I am so glad she made this team and made it to the final so she could run such an impressive time!
So happy for her! She had her Olympic chances ruined by Mu's fall at the US Champs last year, so she deserves a monster race. I loved her reaction... absolute shock! When you can run 1:55, you can beat anyone on a good day.

Sage's NY era had late Cain, young Touhy, Chmiel, Watson, Lawson, Wheeler. Plus the FM and Saratoga teams.
Sage ran for a small Class D school with no T&F tradition. She ran everything from 100 to the 3200 at some point.
Sage won Class D xc as a 7th grader and again as a Senior. As a sr she also was 10th at Foot Locker and national outdoor champ at 800.
She chose Colorado over some strong academic options. Worked out pretty well.

FM was actually the model for the LRC idea that a great coach can beat running success out of anyone. With a surprisingly small team, he demanded absolute commitment and drove his teams to success. He was an early mover on nutrition, year round training and weight lifting for hs runners. Almost all his runners grew up in the region.
Sage and Joe have plenty of non running options. Joe comes from a family of dentists and has his pre dental work completed.

I don’t know where YOU live but I’m in Fayetteville. In a development with SU professors and MDs from Crouse, Upstate and St Joe’s. And you are wrong. Most of my development is here for FM. For the education. And as soon as the kids graduate they’re out! Because the property taxes are outrageous. And yes Bill Aris grew the teams to success. But don’t you dare disparage their success or deny that families move to the area because of the education. You’re obviously clueless
