I think the failure of Hocker, Nuguse and others this year does put Jakob's feats of 5th, Gold, Silver, Silver, 4th (5 straight finals until this year) into perspective. Very hard to pull that off in this crazy 1500m event, let alone to go on and win a bunch of 5000m finals too and break WRs during the season. Credit where credit is due.

No Jakob, no Hocker defending olympic champion, and no world leader from this year. Still a few really solid guys, but it could have been a much bigger race.
