Yeah I think most of us already knew they weren't running worlds, so to put out that vague and mysterious sounding tweet is only going to create more speculation.
ok, maybe it could have been worse. Maybe simply not showing up to the event without saying anything. Then shutting down their Instagram. Then saying that they are nursing a small injury. Then not competing for 6 months+ without stating when they are thinking of coming back and not providing any injury updates.

Big money for the top marathoners in the majors (London, Berlin, Chicago, Boston, NYC et al).
If they weren't already announced for fall marathons I'd think silent ban as well, but it is a lot more clear that the money is deal here.
And, frankly, Chicago should be worried. They have egg on their face with Ruth and her completely bogus "WR", and most of us don't believe in Kiptum's WR there as well. One more and they should be "de-listed" from the Majors.
I may not be up to date, but didn't Cheptegei (or his team) say that Paris 2024 would be his last championships on the track, and after that he would focus on road running?
I always thought that was a bit strange/sad, as I wanted to see him go for a 4th WC gold in the 10000m. He has dominated from 2019 to 2024 (Tokyo 2021 (silver) being the one exception, but that was a really slow, and a bit messy race). He's also pretty young still only 28 (turns 29 in a couple of days) If he had won his 4th WC gold, then he would surpass Farah (3 Golds and 1 silver). It would actually surpass Bekele too, Bekele has 4 Golds, and if Cheptegei had won this year, that would give him a total of 4 Golds and 1 silver. Gebrselassie remains number one in terms of WC golds and medals in the 10000m (4 Golds, 1 silver, and 1 bronze)

I agree, it's definitely a bit disappointing he isn't running, especially since he hasn't really taken to the marathon particularly well so far.
I'm not on X, so can't share the post, but I saw it shared from Uganda Athletics. Here's what it says:
Breaking News 🚨: Ugandan starts Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo will miss the 2025 Tokyo World Championships, set for 13-21 September due to personal reasons.
We request that their privacy be respected at this particular time.
Final lists for Team Uganda 🇺🇬 coming out soon.
I don't understand how Kiplimo sucks so much in the 10000 after that 56 min HM.
