List of upcoming schools is here:

I know UNC-Chapel Hill has offered the course at least the last two years in January. In 2005 the instructors were: Lori Shepard (Sport Psychology, Training Theory, Jumps); Oscar Jensen (Physiology, Biomechanics, Throws); Ron Grigg (Biomotor Development, Sprints/Hurdles/Relays); Andrew Allden (Ethics, Endurance). I think Shepard, Jensen, and Allden also instructed in 2006 but Grigg did not.
A course not yet listed on the above list will be at Watauga HS in August.
There will be a USATF Level I coaching school held at Watauga High School in Boone August 4-6. The school runs from 6:00 pm Friday to 1:00 pm Sunday. This school covers basic level information in sports sciences, training, and technique for all track and field event. Anyone over the age of 18 is eligible; participants completing the school will be USATF Level I certified coaches and be eligible for advanced, event-specific Level II schools.
Currently scheduled instructors are David Honea (Watauga HS), Glenn McAtee (Clemson Univ.), and Brad DeWeese (UNC-Asheville). Complete details and registration will be available by June 1 at

. Updates will be made to ncpreptrack when final registration information (including lodging possibilities) are available. For more information, contact David Honea at

Several people that have taken Level I said they went to one at Highland Community College in kansas. They said it was one of the best in the country. Do you know if they are having one this summer?
Holy crap! We can't complain about the USATF Level I certification. Only $125 and no requirement to join USATF. I was looking at the Level I certification for USA Triathlon and it was $455 plus you are required to join USAT for $30. There were a couple things that USAT requires I think USATF should consider, though. They require you to obtain American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certifications. Also, they do a criminal backgorund check.
Road Runners Clubs of America has a coaching certification for $200. They also require American Red Cross CPR and First Aid that must be renewed in order to maintain RRCA certification.
I wish USATF would eliminate the requirement to have coached for 3 years in order to be eligible to attend Level II. Unless you are a high school teacher it is nearly impossible to coach high school and every youth track club in this area seems to focus on only sprints and jumps. It's as iff any event over 400 meters, all the throws, and the pole vault are not part of track and field. I'd love to go to Level II and have probably read more material than most of the people who attend but without the experience it's out of the question.
Any of thr USAFT classes in Northern California.
