Keely Hodgkinson WOW! Almost PRs - 1:54.75 in her season opener FTW in Silesia!!

Haven't found the race yet but here is the post-race interview

This is a great opener and I was thinking she wasn't even going to be able to run at World's. But I don't question it because it's not even a pr and she has gradually dropped time over the years and was Olympic champion last year after multiple medals. What I question are when people with little history who are not that young skip over all the interim times to jump right into medal contention. Case in point, 2nd placer Lilian Odira. Listed at 26 years old, she all of a sudden is running 1:56.52 after 1:58 at 25, and very little of any quality prior to that. Her 400m pr at 24 was just 58.26. She had 2:14.8 800m at 19 years old and 2:11.73 at 20. Hardly the world level prospect. She then has no results for 800m for five years and runs 1:58.53 before 1:56.52 PB today.

Similarly, but not quite as extreme an outlier, is the third placer Oratile Nowe of Botswana. She is listed as 25 and at least does have a 400m pr of 53.22 from way back in 2020, when she would have been 20. By 2022, she was barely breaking 55. She first broke 2:13 800m at age 19, running 2:08. It was only last year when she finally broke 2:01.6 and now has suddenly dropped to 1:56.76 NR. She also dropped from 4:23 to 4:11 in the 1500 this year so she at least has a combination of speed and improved endurance. But it is still ludicrous to see what they are doing in their mid-20s.

Hodgkinson's hasn't run in a year, comes back and is almost 2 seconds clear of next best time this season.

How fast did Brazier run at Nats after three years off and then five months training? Oh, a PR. Like the guy said earlier, crickets. Certain people get a pass, like Gabby for whereabouts and Ajee for tainted meat. lol

1:54 for a first race back is astonishing. She can front-run Worlds and take gold. I expected 1:56/57 and I knew she wouldn't race if she wasn't ready, but this was a statement. I wouldn't be surprised if she sees this as job done for now and skips Lausanne on Wednesday. There's probably not much to be gained from racing 4 days later when coming back from injury, unless she just wants a race against her likely rivals in Tokyo. Whatever happens, this was brutal. That will be explain the 2012 and 2016 womens' olympic 800m results then. Caster Semenya, Francine Niyonsaba and Margaret Wambui were all pretty white girls. Melissa Bishop, Justina Joswick and Lynsey Sharp are obviously dark skinned Africans, and thats why there was no outcry over them being beaten by athletes who are now illegible. Their protest were carried away on a sea of white tears to enable those pretty white girls to get the medals they so richly deserved.
