Stuff happens, often injury related that makes a vast majority of the 'sure things' turn out not to be.
All of those people went away to school. Lane’s running career derailed before she left HS.
She’ll stay in town and have a good coach at BYU. Given how well she’s running now, I doubt any significant changes will made to her training so if she does suffer an injury it will be random.

Of course you can be correct, and it would actually be pretty amazing to see rookie Jane contend for a title as a frosh!
Just pointing out that statistically, it does not happen often. Similarly, there is another post floating around of all the girls who broke both 10:00 and 4:40 in high school. Surprisingly of that group of about 20, only Mary Cain ever went on to make a USA pro team so far.
On this subject, recent transfer portal entrant Leah Stephens was a rare top 5 high schooler, who even scored on a championship team as a frosh. NC State only won by 1 point v NAU that day, so every runner was MVP, but a frosh scoring was probably their most unlikely contributor.
In the race video, Hedengren isn't wearing a bib when she crosses the finish line about 10-12 sec after the 32:03 & 32:05 guys and well ahead of D'Amato. Assuming there's no funny business connected with the missing bib, an approx 31-flat conv road 10k lines up with her track times from this year and supports a preseason top 5 XC ranking, imo.
She already has faster PR’s than hartman at the mile, 3,000 and 5,000, and hartmans PRs are faster than everyone on the list besides the top 2. Its not guaranteed the transition will be seamless and racing isnt just about PR’s coming in, but objectively she should not be any lower than 3rd in pre-season rankings.

NOONE is beating a healthy Lemngole in cross country, steeple, and 5000m unless they make a COLLOSAL leap in fitness including Kosegi, Hartman, and Jane H. Doris soloed a sub 9 minute steeple at NCAA she's on another level than the other NCAA females.
Competition for Doris Lemngole: Jane and Pamela has the best chance of bridging the gap next year.

Hendegren is in a different universe compared to 4:40/10:00. She ran 2X4:39 and based on her 14:58, she could have run 3X10:00.

Didn’t Hasay also compete at the World Champs once? I wanna say in the 10k
Also, IIRC, that group of sub 10/sub 4:40 is mostly from athletes competing within the last few years.

Liza Pascuito Murrieta Valley HS out of California's Southern Section graduated in 2004. She ran (best I could find) 4:51, 1600, 17:39 at Woodward and she finished 29th out of 32 runners at Footlocker in 2003.
In the fall of 2004 she attended Colorado. At that years NCAA D-1 Championship she finished 13th (second Colorado runner) as a true freshman to help them win the NCCA title.
Will Hendegren or any of this years top recruits surpass Pascuito's impressive feat as a true freshman?
