I'm just putting in a large order of popcorn on Amazon for the inevitable LRC meltdown by male running "studs" who will cry when she gets under 4, even under 4:02. I think any sub 4:02 performance would make it difficult for the LRC running studs to cope.
What I've noticed throughout the years is that the fastest African women have also been some of the prettiest. The Bibaba sisters, Faith, and Sifan Hassan among others.
What we see with the success of the African women is millennia of DNA forged in the beautiful and rugged landscape of Africa. No surprise that the best runners come from the purest and most bountiful untouched land.

I'd love to be wrong. But 3:49/4:07 is not where you can attack this from. I just isn't.

This is me done with track. Nike should be ashamed of themselves for this. 3.49 1500m runner breaks 4 for a mile. Nothing suspicious here move along.
I wonder if they will consider running this on a straight mile stretch rather than the track... Might not be much of a difference but worth looking into. I really can't see sub 4 happening unless Nike really tests out some strange tactics
Faith opening her season with a 1000m makes total sense given this upcoming Breaking4 exhibition event. If Faith wants any shot at sub-four, then she should obliterate the 1000m WR of 2:28.98 in a few days with a ~2:25!
As others have said, the chances of her actually breaking four (even with male pacers, super tracks, super shoes, wavelight, and perfect conditions) is extremely remote. Still, events like these are good for the sport and with all this help Faith can definitely run a few seconds faster than the official WR.

It's gotta be downhill right? Craig Wheeler ran 3:24 and couldn't break 4 on the flat. I wouldn't put Faith anywhere that kind of gradient but it wouldn't take much to get her sub 4 downhill.
IS this on the track? On the road? Male pacers? Legal shoes? I assume this won't be a öfficial WR"like breaking 2
Nike's press release says they will run it in the same stadium where the Paris DL is so it's on the track.
The press release doesn't say but of course they are going to have male pacers (or I guess they could have women pacers jumping in and out but it seems easier to just use men the whole time).
I'm assuming they'll use a v formation and have the pacers in front and back of her. So I'm wondering if maybe she'll run out in lane 5 or something or if they'll have half of them run on the inside of lane 1.
When she ran her 1500 WR, she had good pacing for 2:11. Here she'll get it the whole way. So let's subtract 2 more seconds for extra 800 pacing and then an extra second for V formation. Hell make it two. So let's give her 4 more seconds for the V formation the whole way.
That's 4:03. She's still a long way from sub-4.
I don't think Faith is remotel fast enough to break 4:00. To break 4:00, you need to be alike a 1:53 800 runner at the worst.

This Nike press release is the most desperate attempt to demonstrate to anyone listening that Nike is still a relevant, innovative company. Things must be really bad in Beaverton.
Nobody expected breaking2 to result in anything close to 2:00:26. It totally redefined what people thought was possible in the marathon, and just a few years later we saw a 2:00 in a real race. Part of that was the advancement in shoe tech, and I truly don’t see her getting below 4:03 unless Nike is trying some insane shoes that aren’t even close to WA legal. But idk Puma just announced shoes that are supposedly way better, maybe Nike has been doing working on something.
With even pacing the whole way, and male pacers, a 4:04-4:05 is certainly possible. With an improvement in shoe tech and Faith in the best shape of her life, a 4:03 might even be possible if conditions are perfect and she has an A day. A 4:02 just doesn’t sound possible to me, so I guess that’s what they’d have to hit to really succeed in my mind (insofar as redefining what’s possible).
