The arabs have been trying to kill off the Jews since at least 1920 when an Arab militia killed bunch Jewish farmers in the "battle" of Tel Hai and burned the settlement to the ground.
The land was largely empty and useless. The arabs didn't decide they had a problem with Jews buying the land until they realized what civilized people could do with the land.
I'd say after the way "palestinians" have behaved for the last 100 years they should be thrilled Israel lets them live anywhere.
