Favorite Running Shoes - EVER

Megaditto whoever said Nike Vortex. Easily the best for me. Fewer injuries and better PR's in that shoe than any other. Really wish Nike would bring it back.

I have read too many posts about the "old" version of the xyz shoe. Why is it that when a company produces a new version of a shoe it's worse than the previous version? If it ain't broke, why fix it?

The Gazelle rocked. I had about 5-6 pair of these shoes. Why they don't make them anymore is beyond me.

Nowadays, I run mostly in Asics shoes (2100 and Ds trainer), but to be honest the Adidas Boston was the best shoe ever...

Asics GT II back in the mid-late 80s was a great shoe. Lightweight and flexible.

Nike Air Icarus

Bought a pair in 1992 and wore them through 3 seasons of cross country and track. My parents were too poor to buy me a new pair, so they had to last.

The Nike Terra TC (Red, White, & Black) was a great road racing shoe with a lot of bounce and cushion, especially for the first few wears.

Zappos.com has the Gazelle. I haven't gotten any so don't know if they're different from the old ones.

Nike Waffle Racers (the 1990s/2000s spikeless waffle version, not the old retro trainer from the 70s/80s)...got about 2000 miles (and still adding up) on one of my many pairs...

the old nike terra zona trail shoe, the purple ones...ooh. like butter.

Brooks Villanova (their first shoe - MSRP $19.99 mid-70s)

Nike Bermuda (perriwinkle blue w/ all mesh toe box - great for wide feet)

adidas Runner (gold mesh/royal stripes)

I am suprised so many people are saying nike, but nothing current in getting much reponse. For me, it was the New Balance 854, I have a least 10 pairs of them. As far as I know, that shoe (and the 852) are the only single-density posted shoes out there.

Good question. i'm not sure i can answer that too well, but i'll give you a low down on the shoes that i've worn the past 5 years or so.

the H-street is basically a track spike without spikes. i transitioned to the H-street, and i love the feel of being light on my feet--both on hard days and easy days. mainly, i use it for my long runs and recovery runs now.

after the gazelles were done, i wore a lot of the supernova classics, the nike pegasus 2000, then i bought several pairs of the nike ekiden (when they were $19 at eastbay) and i trained in those exclusively for a long time--like 18 months. also, i bought a pair of the zoom elites, but they fell apart too quickly for my taste. during that time, i phased in the h-street, by running 1 mile in them during an easy 5 mile recovery run. i gradually moved on, so that i could run 7 miles in them, and then to 15 miles. also, i run a lot on trails and grass, so it makes it a lot easier.

since those are basically thrashed now (over 1000 miles), i bought a pair of the miler xc's and wore those for a 15 miler yesterday. i was hoping this could be a replacement for the h-street, as the price and availability are much more friendly than the h-street, but it was a tough run. my feet got several blisters, which is odd, since i ran a 1500 on saturday in normal milers, and i don't get blisters from those spikes at all. the shoes were thrashed pretty bad, and i was surprised to see how little they lasted, even on soft trails (some parts had sections of sand, and others grass). i maybe have 30 miles left in them after 1 run.
