Americans more when businesses pay more. Companies refuse to lose their bottom line, that’s why prices go up when tariffs are introduced. Companies have to pay higher prices so they make prices for consumers higher. If those companies go to another foreign nation, because tariffed countries’ prices are too high, why would Americans still pay more?
What do you think “while companies move production to another foreign country” means? Do you live in a fantasy world where you snap your fingers and the factories and labor force just warps from China to Vietnam instantly?

Chill out man, I’m the one asking you that question. You keep claiming these instances without any evidence. Maybe you should paste another Investopedia article. I actually went to school for International Business.

You copy and pasted an article as your explanation. The point of tariffs is to tax goods or products from other countries so they are more expensive. Doing this makes choosing domestic options more competitive, leading the US to buy resources from domestic sources, rather than other countries.
This is unequivocally not what happened in my industry.

As I said earlier, a tariff is placed on a good, not a specific country. If the tariff applies no matter what, why would switching production to another country fix that? The tariff would still apply to the new country they choose to produce in

You should get a refund from your IBS. You can absolutely tariff a good based on the country it is coming from and that same tariff not be in place for that same product produced in another country. See: the tariffs from Trump’s first term.

You can enact a tariff on something that China is a leader in but you cannot put a tariff on China itself. You’re just making things up now.

Goodness, you are really embarrassing yourself. The USA can 100% have a tariff on tennis shoes from China and have no tariffs on tennis shoes from Thailand.
Come back when you’ve actually learned about what tariffs are. This is as bad as the guy who claimed they aren’t a tax.

You have yet to refute anything I’ve said or cite any evidence to your claims. Provide anything that supports this statement and we can continue. Otherwise, have a good night

I can’t believe that I’m being asked to “support” something as basic 1+1 = 2.

”Tariffs are fees applied to specific products from specific countries for specific times, they are determined by international trade negotiations and can change at the whim of the current government.”
Munish Gupta at Supply Chain Advisory explains the difference between customs, duties, and tariffs how each factor into your overall shipping strategy.

You guys have lost track of the point of this thread. Like OP said, everyone’s going off on “this is my opinion on tariffs and I hate everyone else”, but his point was that the MSM fails to call Trump out for lying about what tariffs are, and this is a big part of why Trump favors tariffs in the first place.
If every time Trump talked (ie lied) about tariffs, MSNBC and CNN pointed out that he’s literally just raising taxes on American companies, I can’t imagine Trump doing the tariff thing at all. But those meds outlets obviously have some agreement with the Trump admin, similar to how when Trump was part of an SNL roast decades ago, every criticism was fair game except they weren’t allowed to suggest he didn’t have as much money as he claimed. It’s the same with his presidency; the Democrats and the Media can say whatever they want about Trump’s character, but they never call him out for lying when it’s about his about his track record, especially about economics. He has a businessman image to maintain, and the Democrats and Media are 100% in on this.

Should CNN have done the same thing when Joe Biden puts tariffs on goods from other countries? I don't recall them covering it that way.
If you weren't complaining then, you shouldn't be whining now.

I’m complaining now because Trump lies about what tariffs are.
I did not complain during Biden’s term because Biden did not lie about what tariffs are.
Also, Biden applied tariffs strategically to boost American production where it was economically advantageous to do so. Trump is applying them un-strategically and universally, in a way that’s going to drive prices up across the board, because he doesn’t have the balls to admit international trade isn’t straightforward, and he knows you guys will believe him.
