I'm old, fat, and out of shape, and working hard to lose weight and get back in shape without injuring myself. So I've been doing 60 mins on a treadmill with half being running and the other half being uphill walking. And most days I also aqua jog for 30 mins.
In 3 weeks my run pace at a given HR has improved dramatically and now my HR is actually higher during the uphill walk, which from an effort perspective is probably the hardest muscularly. On the aqua jog it's almost impossible to get my HR above 140 (whereas it's easy to get the run HR up to 160), but the aqua jog from a strain perspective is very difficult, especially for my arms.
Running-wise I can cruise at zone 2 paces faster than I could tempo run 3 weeks ago but I don't feel like I could tempo run for more than a few minutes because my leg muscles are too weak for my fat body.
Not sure if this info helps the conversation but hopefully someone will get something useful out of it.
