The UK has passed laws (or at least Scotland has, the rest of the UK is due to follow) that means you can be reported to the police for a hate crime incident for comments you make in your own home.
In recent weeks, the UK has had a number of random stabbing incidents of women and girls.
Abusive behaviour comments, both online and in real life, of women and girls are very common, including threatening ones. Yet the law very much support protecting people of a certain religious persuasion, while the Legislature ignores far more serious attacks and refuses to address them in a similar way.
So what is a "hate crime"? Whatever some left winger determines it to be?
What else would it be? That term is basically a cudgel used by the modern left ("we'll do that revolution one of these days, we swear!") to beat down opponents. It's vague and ill-defined enough that it can be applied broadly (as long as a non-leftist did something) and charged enough that as long as they can keep the term "hate crime" associated with any action, almost nobody will be brave enough to defend that action because who wants to be pro-hate? It's the same move they pulled with "racism," where at least in 2020-22, they had society convinced that literally everything we did and everything we liked was racist or at least bAseD iN rAcIsM so we lost our nerve to defend ourselves and our lifestyles. We seem to be getting over the fear of being called racist by leftist nitwits lately, but "hate crime" still has an impact so it still works for its intended purpose. But I will say, even though Americans invented the modern form of progressive / faux-Marxist lunacy, for some reason it turns even crazier when it is exported to other countries. The UK is in a terrible state with speech and expression now and the craziest thing is I never see anyone over there brave enough to say things are getting ridiculous. Thank God for the First Amendment and 250 years of speech/expression caselaw in the US. Hope we can keep our rights and not turn into a sad joke of a country like the UK.

I've noticed that in the past few months previously heavily left-wing communities like reddit (r/unitedkingdom and r/ukpolitics) have started to swing more right with people challenging immigration policy and free speech laws. In the past these people would have been shut down and buried in downvotes but now these comments are becoming the opinion of the majority.
And that's in a left-wing echochamber, the general population swings more to the right.
Two asylum seekers avoid jail time after violently stealing a £25k watch from a person in London. Instead they get community service.
I suspect these two gentle lads will be completely reformed from this extremely harsh punishment and they will go on to become brain surgeons and CEOs.
There’s your democracy in the UK. Zero levels for freedom of speech against a political topic like immigration and illegal immigration. How can a white man whose family has been in the UK for 20+ generations be “racist” in his own country anyways? Explicitly excluding racial violence or incitement to violence, how can a white person be racist in their own country? Racist against what ?
What I will say is Starmer has hushed a few, which I like.
When he said he was going to be tough on far-right protesters everyone pretty much laughed at him.
A few weeks later operation New Dawn is in full swing, with large numbers removed from prisons early to make way for rioters and even those spreading dangerous hate online.
It's the biggest FAFO I can remember for some time. I guess if you try and call out a qualified lawyer you might end up inside.
