People on this board need to realize that running is not the only way to get fast, first Parker Valby, now Georgia Bell, are you guys just going to accuse everyone who gets fitter through cross-training as a "suspicious doper"? Let's be serious.

They don't just get "fitter". They make far bigger improvements than athletes who train harder. There's no credible explanation for that.
Citation needed on "train harder" -- you can simply train much more through lower impact cross-training like biking, elliptical, ArcTrainer, swimming than with runner. Even top American marathoners like Mantz and Young can "only" run 120 miles a week while cross-trainers can simply put time in training than "pure" runners.
Oh. The magic arc trainer explanation. I do feel for the fanbase. They so desperately want the sport to be real. High school and until recently college was the last vestige of reality the sport has.

Cross training for distance runners isn't the usual for elites because it isn't considered as effective as running. It is typically employed for those who are injury-prone or recovering from injury. It is a substitute for running when the athlete is unable to run higher mileages. They are therefore unlikely to be the best.
Unfortunately I simply cannot believe she (or Jess Hull) is clean. I also highly doubt that if anything is found, That Team GB will allow it to be exposed due to the implications it would have for her training mates…
On the flip side, the sport will never be real if the fans are willfully stupid. "But you see, like, it totally makes sense, she crosstrains, plus she ran a decent 800m time at 15. She must be clean." Just listen to this drivel.
meant to add that cross training is great and all, but if anyone else has had an injury that stopped them from running (much) and has absolutely hammered on the bike, I’d be interested in knowing how much benefit that had for their running. When I’ve had to do this, I’ve found that although it really helped my mind relax (feeling like I’m doing my best to maintain fitness), when I returned to running, it took a period to get back ‘into shape’.
A decade of duathlon training and racing. Getting in 15-20 hours of aerobic work each week on the bike in addition to doing some quality running. She was the world age-group champion in 2023 and considered a UK running prodigy in her teens. Perhaps she is an outlier that thrives on cross training and has a really big engine as a result? If reports and articles are accurate, then 30 miles a week of running plus the riding above is far more overall training volume than most other middle-distance women are doing. It's not like she sat around getting heavy for ten years, joined a Couch-to-5K program at New Year's, and then a miracle happened.
Yes true re aerobic base but that is what it is, it isn't in almost any case likely to be the one year stepping stone to an OG silver in what is apparently the 11th fastest AT just behind several obvious dopers of earlier years. Age group duathlon champ is a world away from a 3.52 1500 a year later. Maybe one year has been enough to move that world legally, I don't know.

"Outlier" is an overused and indeed outdated term in the sport. There aren't real outliers at the top of the sport because the differences in ability at that level are very small. That is why athletes dope. To beat other talented athletes.

There's a difference between getting in shape and coming off the bench to blow away this generation's best UK 1500m runner.
From collegiate also-ran (4:12) to Olympic bronze medalist (3:52) in 1 year, finishing just behind sus Jess Hull who did NOT take a 5-year break from running, it clearly must be one or the other.

She's a very obvious doper,in a sport, and an olympics, chock full of very obvious dopers. I have no doubt she always had more talent than her 4.12 in college (or was it 4.17?) but from 4.06 to 3.52 in a year, is a supernatural 90s chinese level of improvement. Also, she's 31. Far too old to be running monster pb's

A lot of "training harder" has to do with the American distance running's worship of adversity and pain. If your "training harder" doesn't work, as it apparently didn't during Bell's college career in the US, it won't help you.

These discussions always go around in circles, the truth is no one knows one way or the otherfor sure. Her progression looks suspicious, but if she is doping how has she managed to leapfrog so many other runners that many people on here insist are doping..

These speculations do nothing to explain why she's better than the other dopers, and the dope-accusers tend to resort to "better dope" when confronted.
Mashallah, this westerner is DIRTIER than great mud MINARETS of Ghardaia... you Letsrunners make grand deal of self-intellectuality... Ms. "CLEAN" Bell started training serious a year ago.... NOO WAYYYY is she not DOPED. OF. THE. GILLS!! Unlike smooth, pure PRIDEFUL LION SEDJATI... may PRAISE be heaped upon him and his LINEAGE! Mnshoufkon bi kheir.

If she was clean she wouldn't be leapfrogging any of the dopers at the top. Doping also isn't "one size fits all" so the results won't necessarily be the same for athletes who are doping.

Ok, other than the massive drop in time what objective evidence do you have that Bell is an "obvious doper". Iwould love to hear it since you feel free to slander her here.
