kipruto was the one that opened my eyes. up until that point, i had been willfully naive, taking performances at face value. doping is truly rampant in the sport.
Before that, it was rather rare but did happen, e.g. Jeptoo and Sumgong and Kiprop between 2014 and 2017. But then, there was no AIU pre 2017 catching Kenyans.
Absolutely fantastic news. Is he going to give his prize money back? Will his coaches and managers have to give back any money as they were also making a living of his cheating?
I am wondering if athletes will abandon fighting ABP cases now. To fight these cases, you need to hire a lawyer, then find scientific experts who understand the ABP model (there aren't many of them) to make your case for you.
Or just be well connected like off-score Paula ...
Rhonex Kipruto is a distinguished long-distance runner from Kenya, renowned for his exceptional prowess in the 10,000m race. At just 24 years old, he has already clinched the World U20 Championship title and a bronze medal at...
Prague, 5 June 2024 PRESS RELEASE Experts on Kipruto: Facts say he is not cheating. ABP should protect clean athletes, not bully them. Background to the matter: World Athletics v Rhonex Kipruto could be found in detail here:...
These Kenyans arte committing fraud. They just take the money and run. All prizemoney should be kept in lieu for a period until drug tests are proven to be negative. No show. nO dough.
Brother Colm, Rhonex Kipruto’s coach: “I carefully choose who I work with and to whom I dedicate my energy. I know Rhonex is an honest young man and it hurts me to see him suffering now. Our strategy is to train hard, and that's the only way we achieve results. I have said many times that I am in favour of systematically combating doping so that we can protect clean athletes like Rhonex.”
Well I had him pinned as guilty, given the large number of Kenyan positives, however I then read his website….I find it hard to imagine a doper would spend so much time effort and money on such an undertaking if they knew they were cheating. I actually think he might be clean: just naturally high in the ‘stuff’ they are testing….hence why he’s so goddam good. Hmmm…..

Yep, I agree.
It's almost unprecedented for a cheat to say they were not cheating after they got caught.
Don't think I've ever seen it before....

LOL. Just remember to what yuuuge extent Armstrong and Houlihan were fighting against their doping accusations and ban.
Spent money? LOL he is already asking us for more cash, instead of shutting up and returning his ill gotten prize money.

Have to start escrowing at least some prize money because it’s difficult to claw it back. As has been reported, Buzunesh Deba still hasn’t received her prize money from Boston 2014. That cheat Rita Jeptoo has likely spent or concealed the $$$. I would escrow at least until sample retesting or ABP confirmation.
Also "just naturally high in the ‘stuff’" is also false, as his ABP shows: the values went up and down as typical for blood dopers, they were not consistently high at all.
Me too. But we do know that his ABP has HGB values of 14.8 - 17.9 g/dl, and ret-% of 0.78 - 2.32.
The 14.8 could be natural, or after withdrawal of blood. If the former, he is a doper because then he can't get up to 17.9 (a 21% increase) naturally; if the latter, he is a doper because he withdrew blood (and might have a natural 16 g/dl and doped it up by 12% - some of that maybe from extra altitude).
Also he blames alcohol for his numbers, not a naturally high HGB. The drug cheat apologists here didn't even bother to check the facts.

High hgb + low retics = slam dunk I wanted it to be a mistake as well, but facts are facts.
