maybe he didn’t absolutely rinse himself cause he knew he was beaten but there’s no way he let him win.

Don't think so. Jakob had a hard time keeping up when Kerr pushed with 300 to go. The reason Jakob didn't move out to pass was it looked to me like he was considering an inside pass. There was room because Kerr drifted out, but Jakob clearly didn't have the extra gear.
I don’t see the mystery. Like you said, the reason he didn’t pass him, was because he couldn’t. The only way he can beat Kerr is to try to gap him and then hold him off. It’s not surprising that he wanted to save that kind of effect for Paris. I think it was an excellent opportunity form to test what would happen if the roles were reversed at Pre.
I’ve never seen such a stupid discussion as to whether he looked dejected. He rarely loses races so, hell yeah, he was dejected. He’s an athlete and not an actor.

Also, Jakob sees himself as the alpha dog. An alpha dog would never intentionally lose to a lesser athlete like Kerr (in Jakob's mind). Particularly Kerr, who Jakob clearly despises.
Tell me you are American without telling me you are American.

I mean it’s pretty understandable why you would use the word “dejection”…but…
Those look like the eyes of somebody who just ran a 3:45 mile. I’ve finished races that weren’t all out and still looked like I had to sh*t my pants/ like my gf cheated on me.
Clearly the postnuptial shut off has crippled his racing ability. Without a regular release, he runs tight and is missing speed. It will only get worse…

I’ve seen others mention this, so thanks for pointing out specifically where it happens…but I’m not really seeing big dejection in his face.
The copes from Jakob's disciples just keep getting more creative.
I think "he let him win" in the sense that he knew it was no point in trying to race him for the win (in other words he got beat and he knew he couldn't win). I think sometime during the race Jakob found out where he was at relative to Kerr, and he probably started thinking about what he needs to do the next months to be fit for the Olympics rather than having any ambitions about this race, which was slim at best.
Instead of risking anything for a very slim/0% chance of a win, I think he just accepted the second place (which people here absurdly call an L, lol).

Have you ever seen a close race where one guy wins and the other finishes a close secon?. It happens at every level and it’s the same damn thing, everytime.
The way some of you describe these world class runners, one would think they’re kind of touched in head.
Jakob literally said in the Citius interview that he tried to make a move to pass Kerr with 50m to go but didn’t gain any ground because Kerr sped up at the same time. He admitted Kerr was stronger on the day, but believes he can surpass him as he keeps training and moves further from his injury.
Seriously, there’s plenty to praise Jakob for without making stuff up to justify every defeat. This thread is embarrassing.
Some of you are so gullible. Jakob treated that like round 1 of the Olympics. Nothing more. Nothing less. He wasn't worried about winning this heat. Kerr is playing right into his trap.
- Running a 3:45.60 mile after losing 4-5 months of base training to aquajog, elliptical and other alternative training is more than he could've dreamt of. If you offered him this Bowerman mile back in December 2023 he'd be all over you.
- I think the consequences of lost training will possibly manifest themselves in two ways:
1) In the 5000. In Paris the 1500 is scheduled on Aug 02, 04, 06. The 5000 is on Aug 07 and 10. Does he have enough left in the tank to perform on the 10th? In a normal year, yes, and with a margin, but this year? We'll see.
2) No multi-peak summer. He'll be in 3:28 shape for Euros (June 07-12), but that's kind of "base level" for race-season. Between then and Paris he won't run any times below 3:28 or 12:55. He's probably going Oslo (DL) -> Sandnes -> Rome (Euros) -> St. Moritz (until wife's due date) -> Sandnes (for a week at most) -> St. Moritz -> Paris.
Whether he gets a helicopter ride from St. Moritz to Monaco DL (July 12, 1500m) or a private jet to Paris DL (July 7, 3000m) remains to be seen. Wouldn't put it past him or his sponsors as he likes to compete.

Does anyone know Jakob and Kerr’s actual schedule? I’m assuming they won’t meet until Paris?
also, does Jakob need to do a 5K and run sub 1305 to get the standard? or will he get in on world ranking?
