Not a kid. Runner for almost 40 years and NCAA All-American here. Sorry that I call it like I see it, but I don’t like people taking shortcuts. I could be wrong, but I would call this unprecedented. Let’s start a list…
You're a liar AND you're stupid AND you suck. That's more valid conjecture than your verbal diarrhea on this thread.
I have no reason to lie. I qualified for the Olympic Trials myself many years ago. It took over a decade of blood, sweat, and tears. We’re free to express our thoughts on LRC on these matters. Like it or leave it.
Of course she is talented. Impossible to argue that. Take 30 minutes off her PR (no matter what the progression was) and she would still be extremely talented.
Assuming EPO and/or nandrolone (or the like) provides 10 minutes on top of natural talent, then perhaps a plausible time would be 2:34, which would still be faster than 99% of D1 women runners and most elites. Incredible, but plausible.
However, 2:24 in just 5 years of total running experience (only 2-3 years seriously) is just too fast too soon. It’s chemical + talent.
If it was a 2:34 PR we were talking about, then we wouldn’t be having this thread/conversation.
You’re just drawing an arbitrary line in the sand. I think the crux of the issue here is that you’re bothered that her running success came easier than yours, because she’s more talented.
There is still such a thing as talent. A guy joined my running club after his friends dared him to run a 5k with them. This guy was a talented athlete in HS and played basketball and ran some track at a small HS. No organized sports in college, but got into working out at the gym and would play pick up basketball and intramural sports. His first 5k was just under 20 min. After a few months of training with our group, he got down to 17 min. A few months later, 16:30. He then started running with our coach and some ex Div I guys in town. A year later, he was running low 15s and 32 for 10k. Within three years of joining our group, he broke 15 on the road and got elite invites for some road races.
I think Gabi's marathon debut was a bit of a sandbag run, or a well coached cautious first marathon. Also, she was very active after her years as a collegiate gymnast and tried soccer, swimming, crossfit among other things. She was probably had as much physical strength, stability, etc. as any pro runner when she started training and just needed to build her cardiovascular system and endurance. Finally, age does not mean as much for women. They do not loose testosterone as they age like men do. So, women often can have very successful distance running careers in their 30s and 40s. Colleen De Rueck has some of her best years in her late 30s and early 40s. D'Amato and Hall are also examples.
She clearly has talent. It goes beyond that.
Although your example timeframe is comparable, the guy would’ve needed to run 13:xx or 28:xx to be in the same ballpark as Rooker’s marathon time. I also ran 32 for 10k in HS after 3 years of running.
Would you agree we are talking about an entirely different level here (or three)?
D’Amato is also sus as has been discussed many times on LRC, and she has an extensive running background. Sara Hall has been elite for 20 years. These are nowhere near the same thing as what we have here, which is combining several implausible factors together (age, experience, progression, etc.)

I'm not going to say she's sus. She is likely the person those of us less genetically talented find annoying, but her progression is far longer than being advertised here. Her Run Minnesota profile shows that she had started casually running as early as 2014/2015 and going from hating a 5k in 2014 to a 1:10 10mile in 2015, and a 1:06 10 mile in 2016, which on low miles is impressive for a hobby jogger. She upped her miles as well in 2021 to 60 per week and is now over 100. There was always talent, as a former gymnast, I'm sure she's familiar with the pain cave and can go deep. Health, training, and talent combine to make a fast runner.
Let’s come right out with it: Gabriella Rooker’s marathon progression should shock even the hobbyist of joggers. Since her debut at Grandma’s in 2021 to her most recent race at the California International Marathon (CIM), in...
Tomorrow though is a different kind of race than she's ever run. What's she going to do when Sisson, Sania, and/or D'Amato wind the pace up at the 20 mile mark. There are going to be a handful of others still with them when it happens and everyone will try to cover. One of the favorites will break before the top 3 separate. Hopefully the TV coverage doesn't miss it like last time.
Frerichs was a gymnast whose only cross country state result was like 54th in Missouri while a gymnast. Then she was the American record holder and 2nd at the world championships as a runner.
So some context here--Frerichs only ran one XC season in high school and didn't really understand racing. She imploded at this race. She should have finished much higher.
Also, Frerichs is sus.
Despite the mysogny of OP I agree. I think it's always fair to ask questions about significant improvement.

So says you, buddy. You're free to say anything you want about yourself on here without bringing the facts to prove it. You still don't have credibility by backing one claim with another. You come on here calling someone out by name and won't even put your real name to it. That's the kind of cowardly idiot you are. At least Rooker isn't on here criticizing others out of the blue and saying, "just believe me!" I'm not going to stop using "your" registered anonymous handle, either, when you don't even use it for your recreational internet lynch mob purposes.
I have been coached by her husband for 5 months now. I was her husbands teammate in college I was a sprinter. I believed in him and his training for the time given to me I followed his training to a "T". I went from 2:36:53 to 2:29:30 in 5 months with his training. Immediately after my race Gabi texted me congratulating me. Yes she took the time to do so I appreciated it so much coming from a pro. I hope she makes the Olympic team she deserves it.
The training had staples of certain workouts that I do not want to spoil. It did have me run 6 weeks straight of 100+ miles, that was tough considering I worked 40 hours a week, have a gf, and single parent. It was worth the time though in the end.

I don’t care what you believe.
And since I’m being honest, I admit to posting anonymously (gasp!) so I can occasionally stir the pot on sensitive topics here. Many of us are probably thinking the same thing. As I said before, this is permitted on the LRC message board, so like it or leave it.
Currently a senior in college with sub-par times. When I graduate this coming spring, I’m going all-in for 3 years leading up to the 2024 Olympic trials marathon. Year 1: Mileage only. 100 mpw. No more, no less. Just enough...
“You've never qualified for the OT. The margin for a high-14 5K college senior to get to 2:19 in the marathon in 3 years is razor thin. And the standard might be even faster than that for 2024.”
So according to you, it’s very difficult for an experienced male collegiate runner to go from high-14 in the 5K to a 2:19 marathon in 3 years (I agree), but totally plausible that an inexperienced female can run 2:24 in the same period without “extra help”. Well, you just proved your opinion is fairly worthless, but you are probably just simping. She already has a husband, bro.
By the way, I’m obviously not the real gentlemansavage, so you are confused on many fronts.
Ex-gymnast (D3) who started running in 2018. Could barely finish a 5K according to husband. Got serious during COVID lockdown. 2:55 debut marathon in 2021. Coached by her husband. Not a pro and with a full-time career as PA until recently. 36 years old. 2:24 PR within 5 years.
We have women who are ex-collegiate superstars and full-time pros for the past 20 years that can’t run this fast.
Occam’s Razor and several other laws of nature suggest to me this is way too good to be true. There is talent, and then there is chemical talent. Here we have the latter.
This chick microdosed under the veil of COVID and amateurism with the help of her husband/coach all the way to the top of US women marathoning. I hope she gets popped at the Trials, or at least gets her clock cleaned because she is no longer able to dope in secrecy.
She’s kinda hot tho.
1. She is hot
2. Gabi micro dosing? Hilarious. She’s like the most clean cut person I know, annoyingly so. Will have like A beer maybe when we all go out.
3. I grew up watching my sister absolutely kill it in everything she’s ever done. Sometimes I can’t believe we are related because I have zero of the drive she does. She wants something, she goes for it.

4. it’s ok to admit you’re a lil jeal
Well, your sis won the genetic lottery of marathoning then, and I’d say that even if she was still in her 20s. At 36, it’s literally unbelievable.
No one knows her like you (or have really even heard of her) until now, and running is the dirtiest it’s probably ever been, so maybe I’m jaded and incredulous. Still am and her sis can’t change that.
You can be incredulous but accusing someone of doping is dirty and hurtful. She got 19th yesterday and roughly 7 min slower than her Chicago pr. I don’t know the running world, I found this website when I googled her because I think it’s fun to see her name in lights- but I’d think someone doping would have placed much higher. She’s also not a typical 36 year old. No kids, took leave from work to move to TX to train, she and Alex have the time to dedicate everything to this.
She truly is a natural born athlete. She also runs 100+ miles a week which I have come to understand is standard but to the layperson sounds insane. She trains at one of those hard core weightlifting gyms. She barely sees family and friends. She is the most dedicated person I’ve ever met. And by the way she is hilarious and genuine. There is a kind and loving person behind the athlete you are attempting to smear.

If you’re actually her sister (as you can imagine there are a lot of trolls here)- don’t let these forums get in your or Gabi’s head. I stick around here for running news/updates and training discussions..but the constant negativity is a lot.

That was my point. As a gymnast she was only 50ish in her XC state meet. Once she focused on running, like Rooker is doing now, she became the fastest American steeplechaser ever and a medalist.

In the absence of valid evidence: When a guy is good at talking to women, it is fair to accuse him of rape? When a man makes a good living, is it fair to accuse him of robbing other people? When men work out a lot in gyms and get strong, is it fair to accuse them of murder?
I say no. That is not fair, not right and should not be tolerated.
Significant improvement should be the objective, and celebrated when accomplished. Positive people will embrace it.
If you can't deal with improvement, then quit. Dig a hole, crawl inside, stay there and leave other people alone.

Same with Wiley. Doing soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter. There is an interview where she stated her biggest mileage week during cross country season was only 12 miles. Once soccer season ended her senior year and she decided not to play basketball and focus on running instead, her results took off.
