For all his war mongering, Napoleon was quite the beta for marrying and older woman with kids who made ends meet as a hooker.
There's was a marriage of political mutual benefit, at least initially. Both had their share, or more, of extramarital liaisons
Haven't seen the Scott movie, but last night watched "Waterloo ", a 1970 epic that was historically faithful, even if Rod Steiger seems a tad over the top as Bony P. Christopher Plummer does a good foil as Wellington. A record 15000 costumed extras played by Soviet soldiers ( the battle is filmed in Ukraine) will forever hold that world record. Beautifully staged and filmed befitting that era of film. Would recommend, though hard to find.

Very hard to find.
Don't miss the 2002 miniseries made by the French themselves starring Depardieu as Foucault. That's probably on youtube too

He was beloved by scientists and track athletes for standardizing the metric system across continental Europe. Thanks to him, the standard distance is 1000 paces of a tall man, such as him.
So we have Napoleon to thank for the abominations that are the 1500 and 1600? Where's that racist, sexist Canadian runner when you need someone to complain about "white male nostalgia"?
We got the meter from Napoleon. That 1500 meter nonsense is from the Olympics, much later. They decided tracks should be 500 meters, and when that didn't work out, nobody bothered to change the 1500m race distance.
The kilometer should just be named the mile. Mile is Roman for 1000 paces of a grown man. But then it all got screwed up somehow
