Depending on your intentions...it could possibly be illegal not to.
So your intentions are based on how old the girl is? Are you saying that it's okay to fantasize about being with a minor as long as you won't go through with it until she's 18?
I hate to point this out to you, but if you think "Man, that girl is hot, I sure hope she is an adult!" then there's a pretty good chance you are attracted to non-adults.
I feel the opposite of some of the commentators. I think it's rude at work or some kind of professional setting but ok on a date. Seems ok to me in some kind of casual setting like a running group too. But best not to if you're not sure.
This is absolutely true. In a professional context, it's a big "no". It's not relevant and you can get yourself into some human rights complaints with HR if you ask about age.
But for dating, it is absolutely relevant, especially if their appearance causes you to believe their age is different than what you were led to believe. Honesty matters. However, the only way you can ask is by first stating your own age. The allowable question on a date goes along these lines: "I was born in x year and am x years old. <make funny/lighthearted comment about your own age/year of birth>. How about you, what year were you born in and when's your birthday?" Adding in the birthday allows them to deflect and only give birth date without age. If they do not tell you the year (their age) you can go with your gut that they lied to you about their age. Do not start a relationship with a dishonest person.
Yes. It's personal and many women are self-conscious about it, especially since it is something you can't change. Even if "times have changed," it's always best to be polite.
I do not understand why the reference to things you can't change. Is asking a female about things they can't change rude?
Does that mean that it is rude to ask a female where they were born, what school they went to, what their first race was, have they ever been married before, or did they like that movie?
all females like to talk, and they will all reveal their age of their own accord sooner or later. They'll talk about when they went to school, how long they worked at their job, how old is their youngest kid, etc etc.
It is not true that "all females like to talk" any more than it is true that "all males like to talk."
it may not be 100% true, but it's far truer than if you said it about males, and still an effective strategy.
I am a female who does not like to talk, but I agree that most do, and it can be annoying. Females are more verbal, even as children. It's quite obvious if you spend any time around children.
it's a childish concern like do they look like a supermodel and share my politics. you get old enough and you figure out it's is there a vibe or not. part of that will be do you feel like roughly the same social age and emotional speed. but in my experience people with a number on their checklist often err on the side of not having anyone, because there's always something awry on the checklist. are you happy or not. are you over the moon or not. checklist folks are never happy. the idea here is be happy. roll with what feels right.
i also think if you hang around long enough you get this information one way or another. what candles to buy for beeday. she asks you for yours and you tell each other. a diploma on the wall says he graduated in x. you need to fill out some form together. but if you are happy who cares. and you will probably be planning birthdays or filling out forms before you get hitched.

Holy shmikes, you are stup!d !
1) One's intentions better darned well be at least partly based on how old the girl is. Unless, of course, you are OK with pedophiles.
2) I hate to point it out to you but every straight male is attracted to non-adults. Find me a straight male who says that there are no 17 year-old girls who are hot and I will show you a liar.
ACTING upon one's attraction is the issue - not the attraction itself.
