Fractured her foot during Chicago. Have not seen her at all running in the Boulder area. Social Media silent. Anyone have any info on how her recovery/training is going?
We do not know the specifics of her appearance money, nor do we know her financial situation. We also do not know how severe her pain was or her experience dealing with that type of injury.
So we do not know if this was a poor financial decision or not.
She still ran 2:25, slowing down to run the second half at Chicago about 6 min slower than the first half. A 1:16 second half suggests the injury may not have been too bad.
Being a pro athlete is very unpredictable. There is no guarantee she will or will not be 100% healthy, be able to start, and/or make the Olympic marathon team at the trials (regardless of what happened at Chicago).
As an athlete is often times best to maximize your opportunities when you can.

Unfortunately, she seems to still be injured. Likely blew her shot at an Olympic team. Such a bummer. I thought she was a lock.
No one’s ever a lock. The women’s team in 2020 no one would have predicted. People would have assumed something like Huddle, Sisson, Hall or a few others
She can still try the 10000 at the track Trials in June. She has a 32:04 from 2021 so she has the wheels to get into the field. Only 11 Us women ran that fast in 2023. She will need to run a 10000 sometime this spring to get the Trials standard. No chance she makes the team but at least she can compete in the Trials and maybe get a PR.
Or she can just focus on a fall marathon like Chicago, Berlin, or New York.
