Morceli did not end up marrying a life coach who domesticated him to the point he married her twice, bought her a home, started sleeping in a real bed, sired some kids with her, and now wears suits when he speaks at events where he talks about his past exploits.
Never has any guy fallen so far. A fall greater than from the top of El Capitan.
For real though. Honnold and Kipchoge are basically the only two athletes from their sports to reach the relative mainstream and both are (supposedly) separated from their competitors due to their mental edge.
Honnold's mental edge was domesticated by his girlfriend, then wife and now mother of his children.

I don't disagree with you, but it might be for the best. The kind of stuff he was doing almost always results in death. He reached the top of his game, perhaps the top of all trivial game/sport/crafts, and he is still alive.
Fact of the matter is, once you have a kid, your risk calculus needs to change, kids are entitled to their parents being present and effective parents, to the largest extent possible.
There is no equivalent in running. Marc Andre Leclerc, also a climber and subject of, 'The Alpinist', is the closest to Honnold.
I do believe Courtney Dewaulter has a mental game that can be in the same conversation as Honnold, but the stakes are just so much lower.

Seems like many people understandably doesn't know much about climbing. Alex Honnold doesn't compete (other than a speed record here and there). And if we look solely on athletic performance he is not near the elite. I think the best comparison would be some form of ultra runners. Not the best athletes of the sport, but going to places where no-one else dares, mentally and physically.

Correct. In the doc he straight up says to his then-gf (paraphrasing) "I'm not obligated to maximize the length of my life because of you." That's where he was in life, but not anymore.

YIKES! Honnold married a life coach! You guys need to look up what people like her do. "Helping people identify the obstacles that keep getting in their way, assisting them with finding motivation, and pinpointing any resistance to change." Extremist Honnold married a therapist whose focus was helping people to stop being extremists. What really surprises me is, if you saw the movie, she came across as an overly worried partner who was far along the path to killing her relationship with him. Instead she flipped his life completely around.
