Albert park and bay definitely fine to run shirtless. Medium parks with gravel/similar loops use your discretion - evening with tons of people exercising is fine, but midday with families around I personally don’t. Smaller parks/along streets I always remain fully clothed.
I feel like Melbourne has less of a shirtless running culture than America, I think because there are less dedicated running trails and more shared running places with bikes, walkers, more casual runners etc…
Thanks mate, good to know re Albert Park and Bay Run! Will give it a go when it’s more consistently warm I reckon.

On a Saturday morning at Stromlo Forest Park you will see more guys running shirtless than the bunch of kangaroos that live there and that is saying a lot!
Hey all, I'm in Australia and summer's finally arriving.
I know it's not uncommon to run shirtless in America, but this is my first year running regularly and with it getting warmer, I'm itching to ditch the shirt so I can stay cool on my runs and get a bit of sun on my body.
But I'm curious on what people think about the social acceptability of running shirtless (as a decently fit guy in his late 20s) in Australia?
I'll of course stick to low UV times and lather up with sunscreen, but it's still often pretty warm after 6pm in summer when UV is low.
You’re really overthinking this. Just run without a shirt if it’s hot. Why do you care what strangers think of you?
Meanwhile women are literally putting their ass photos all over Instagram for likes.
I live in the US so no comment on the social standards in Australia, but i've been running shirtless for over 15 years anytime its above 65 degrees with no issues. I sweat a lot and get hot very easily so wearing a shirt negatively affects my workouts. And yes I know the sun is bad for your skin blah blah blah, but I just hate being pale.
Almost all my running is on trails/rural/suburbs no crazy heavily populated neighborhoods. I don't think i've seen more than a couple people running shirtless overweight in all my time running, it's always skinny runners or fit individuals. So I would say don't worry about it just take it off.
Thanks for the comments all, was warm yesterday and did a 20k run (Albert Park + Bay trail) so took my shirt off partway through, felt good! Was far from the only shirtless runner I saw yesterday, got a couple smiles/nods from other guys who did the same.
