The OT Marathon will start at NOON February 3rd in Orlando

US women should get 3 in.

Add Colley (21126 Rotterdam) and Martin 21045 (Grandmas) to the sub 21130 list.

On the current list of runners there are 6 inside the top 65. Of the 6, 5 have a race counted prior to the Nov.1 eligible period.

I checked on Orlando Average Temperature for Feb 3rd and compared it to Paris France on the day of the Olympics 8-10-24and it looks like an exact match. Low 58 with high of 79.

So what is the goal of the olympic trial? To select the best of the best Marathon runner that will compete in France under conditions in France?

Or to find the fastest, flattest, coolest course so everyone runs their best times even though they won't be going to France?

There are currently 6 women with Olympic standard (sub 22650 or top 5 in a Platinum race beyond Nov. 1.-----Tiliamuk. Flanagan, Saina, Bates, Sullivan and Hagans. That would allow any sub 22930 women--now Rojas, Van Ord, Lindwurm, Rooker and McClain in plus anyone with a ranking top 65 from Nov.1 on.

Great point, I’ve changed my mind and this is sounding a little more OK now. But the sun is still much stronger and you can feel the effects more at noon versus early morning

This is only equal if the OG and the OT are run at the same time of day.

Grandmas is a one direction course. Eliminate Martin and Hogans from your list.

Yes, we have numerous men with the 2:11:30 B standard, but I believe we still need someone to run under 2:08:10 to release a quota spot in order to make them eligible. I know that it's also possible to qualify via world rankings, but the list won't be published until three days before the trials, and it becomes irrelevant if more than 65 runners worldwide hit the A standard. That number was already up to 49 last month, so it would be a big gamble to rely on that.

The process is certainly confusing, but the linked thread is where I'm getting my info from. If the author got any of this wrong, that would be helpful to know.

Okay I'm reading over the World Athletics link again, and they say that "Any athlete ranked higher than the 65th athlete on the quota list will be considered qualified." So it looks like McKirdy got that part wrong, but relying on the rankings is still a risk.

And as we all know, it ain't the heat, it's the humidity.

I actually know a guy involved with the organizers. I'll see if this is accurate.

Even though there is a differential (point to point) at Grandmas of greater then 50%, the course is legal for entry standards since the drop is under 1:1000 (1M per K). The course is not eligible for world bests though.

Out of Curiosity, why just the 2.5 mile oval and not the Rolex 3.5ish mile course?

Maybe instead of a boring marathon we will get some heatstroke and unconsciousness. It is about the only thing that would make a road marathon watchable.

I forgot about the Rolex course! Would be a better option. Less loops for the runners.

They should start at 8 or 8:30am, or perhaps even as the sun is going down. But 12-noon is stooped.

They are taking 80 in the marathon. 16 spots will still be open until April 30th. Why can't someone race again in late April and move up the world rankings after the US trials?

I hope they jog 25 miles then sprint the last 1.2 like track races at Olympic trails.
