Insane race by him! Also see Sam Tanner finished 3rd in 3:33 which was his outdoor season opener after getting denied entry to Oslo.
I think the Oslo meet organizer is pretty vindicated. Tanner has one of his faster times though. Will need to be at his best to get to World finals.
Yes agreed. I think perhaps the better approach for Tanner moving forward is to get into some earlier outdoor season meets to prime him up more and give him a better supporting case for entry to the likes of Oslo. When you have 8 guys in that race all cracking 3:30 the depth and entry expectation standards is ridiculously high.
Niels Laros just ran 3:32.89 in Nice. For all the haters saying he doesn’t have the US HS 1500m record, now he does and completely blew it out of the water. What a race from the 18 year old whose goal shouldn’t be U20 Euros anymore but World Championships in Budapest.

Rrright. Back on topic, Laros ran 3.38.34 in Hengelo finishing very strong in a slow race. So it was clear that more was coming but not that he would equal the Dutch record by Gert-Jan Liefers from 2001, a very good runner himself at young age and Olympic finalist in 2004.
A link to the results really should have been included in the OP, intern. Especially considering Coscoran’s Irish national record and the quick times by b-list Americans (3:34s for Comber and Knevelbaard are bigger surprises than Laros’s time!)
I reckon if he was in Oslo he would have taken Nick's national record. He's proven he knows how to hang.
I’m not sure if he would have run that fast quite yet but he would definitely have been faster than 3:33. 3:30.5ish would have been my guess. I have no doubt he will crack Nick’s record in the next year or two. He just needs to live out of his suitcase a bit more like Ollie Hoare and get in the mix with the worlds elite to take him to that next level. He’s got the ability.

Seriously? He runs 3:33 behind Coscoran and Laros and you think he would have run faster than 3:29.66 in Oslo? That’s a stretch.
…
How long before Laros breaks 3:30? With his well-rounded combo of speed and endurance I think he might do it next year while still a U20, which would put him #2 all time for U20s behind Ronald Kwemoi’s 3:28.81 (a record that is very questionable).

I'm gonna catch some flak for this one but I expect him to break 3:30 next year. 3:39 --> 3:32 in around half a year. The season is far from over. What's next?
Niels Laros just ran 3:32.89 in Nice. Now he has a faster PB than the US HS 1500m record, and by a large margin. What a race from the 18 year old whose goal shouldn’t be U20 Euros anymore but World Championships in Budapest.
By the way, I think it's interesting how the biggest drops in time for men occur between 17 --> 19. Obviously nothing unknown, but it's cool to see that pattern continually repeated. Obviously, Jakob went from 3:39 to 3:31 at the same age too.
