After reading this very real Komen comment, I managed to get a quote from Abraham Lincoln on his thoughts about the attempt:
Fellow citizens,
Today, I beseech your attention to the impending 2-mile world record attempt by the illustrious Jakob Ingebrigtsen, a prodigious Norwegian middle-distance runner whose unwavering dedication has captivated the hearts of many. As the resounding echoes of this audacious endeavor reverberate across the land, my contemplations drift toward the esteemed Daniel Komen, the current custodian of the record. For over a quarter-century, Komen's resplendent achievement has shone like a beacon of human athleticism, but now, a tempestuous storm brews, threatening to challenge the very foundation of his revered legacy. Ah, how profound are the emotions that swell within the breast of a great competitor! While the relentless march of time ushers forth the inevitable breaking of records, it is but natural for the soul to cling fervently to achievements that stand as testaments to years of tireless toil and unyielding passion. As I muse upon the sentiments that might course through Komen's veins, I beseech him to embrace the grandeur of this pursuit, to recognize the ethereal beauty woven within the tapestry of the sporting realm, where the clash of titans engenders a spirit of indomitable tenacity and relentless progression.

Strange. He left out the bit about consecrated ground, to a cause so dedicated, while appealing to the better angels in our nature. Maybe he relied on Chat for this version?

Dang man, that's quite a pull to get an Abraham Lincoln interview about the Jakob 2 mile record attempt! Nice work, didn't know he had such interest in track and field.
Here’s what he should have said: “I worked incredibly hard to set that record, and it infuriates me that the only reason someone might break it is super shoes. We all know training and racing in super shoes improves performance by 1 second per lap, so unless he breaks my record by more than 8 seconds, I am still the better athlete.”
That would make Komen yet another old guy claiming to have been better than the current athletes.
1 second per lap is ridiculous. Ingebrigtsen also works ridiculously hard.
Daniel Komen in response to Jakob's world record attempt tomorrow: "I worked incredibly hard to set that world record for the 2-mile distance, and it represents the culmination of my dedication and perseverance. Breaking a world record is a remarkable achievement, and I have immense respect for anyone who strives to push the boundaries of human performance. If someone were to dare touch my record, I would view it as a testament to the progress and evolution of the sport. Records are meant to be broken, and I believe in the constant pursuit of excellence. It would motivate me to see someone rise to the occasion and surpass my mark, as it would inspire the next generation of athletes to aim even higher. However, I also recognize the significance of my record and the legacy it holds. It represents a moment in time when I reached the pinnacle of my athletic abilities. So, to anyone who dares touch my 2-mile world record, I say go for it, give it your all, and let the pursuit of greatness continue to propel the sport forward."
