His form is VERY good. Especially for a beginner. I just checked out his video and found only very minor flaws. I will guess that his coach will try all sorts of things to make him better and only beat his legs to death and the guy will not improve this season. Just a guess from experience though. I don't know how many basketball players I've seen hit their best jumps on their first week of jumping. Most high jump coaches work the legs too much and kill the athlete. Back to form, I can't believe what a natural this guy is to have form like that instinctively. Go to your state's high school championship and see how many guys who have been working all season have form like that. Not many.
His form is very, VERY good for a beginner, but it's not good overall. Look at the video again and look how long his window is, he takes off at a horrible angle and clears nearly the entire length of the bar which is very inefficient. His knee drive isn't terrible good either, which isn't too bad since he's got that long window which means he doesn't have to rotate his body as much, but if he comes at a better angle (down at the bar, not parallel to it), and drives his knee up and across he could go 7'07'' or 7'08''. I would have that guy doing run through approaches out the wazoo and 3 step and 5 step approaches all the live long day and work on his knee drive. HIs problems aren't bad at all and can be fixed pretty easily.
